shooting tethered with canon 1DS Mark III
Hi when trying to shoot tethered to capture pro with the 1DS mark III it says connection failed.. am i missing something?

What does that mean? where will i find the release notes? can you just tell me what they said? i take it you cant shoot tethered then?? 0 -
The release notes can be downloaded from the same location on Phase One's web site as the software itself.
It says that the newest Canon dSLRs are not supported for tethering. It has been discussed in several threads here, including answers from PO explaining changes Canon has made in the software. PO decided to put the effort (time and money) in the upcoming CO4 Pro.
While waiting for its release, a workaround could work for you with a combination of EOS Utility (for connectivity and remote release) and CO378.0 -
hi, thanks for your reply, i read the notes and it says Tethered capture with a number of Canon cameras is not supported.
Yet at the begining it says:
New camera support
• Canon 1D Mark III, 1Ds Mark III, 40D, G9
Also if when you say CO4 you mean the new capture 4 software.. i have this and it still wont let me shoot tethered...

i have not used the canon before and have had no problems so far with capture pro and phaseone....
shooting tethered is an absolute for me and Calumet photographic assured me i could do this with capture pro... ?0 -

Page 1 of the release notes is a summary. Please read on to page 2 for details on tethered support and you will get the picture.
If I say CO4 Pro I mean CO4 Pro not CO4. CO4 is the current available software and a successor of CO3 LE; both don't not support any tethering. But CO4 Pro will.
Install EOS Utility first and connect your camera. Read the EOS software manual if it is not self-explanatory to you (no offense, just advise). Tip: write your name in the camera with this piece of software. It will be in the EXIF metadata of all your pictures as author or creator or something.
Browse through the threads in this sub forum (CO3 for Mac OS) and you will find a scaring amount of posts on tethering.

yes thx have been reading on here and others...
seems no you cant tether on capture pro 3.78 or capture 4 with the canon1ds3... have hired for a job tomorrow so will have to shoot to card.. otherwise buying the canon 1ds3 and using with capture one is a no go right now and from what i can gather having a mac and using lepord is a nightmare with the slow downloading time of the usb cable...
so even though it now 21mp with a large sensor you can only shoot to card or shoot tethered to the canon software which has a 7 sec download time for each image...
is this the info you gathered? do tell...

I suggest that if you tether (with whatever software) you shoot JPEG small + RAW and only have the JPEG downloaded through the USB cable for quick view and short download times.
You can download the RAW files later 'after the party'. You can view the pictures in ZoomBrowser, the Windows preview tool or even CO3x/4x
I would use EOS Utility for tethering and open the files in Capture One 3.7.8, pointing to the folder EOS Utility stores the images (now I told you my secret, OMG).0 -

I think small JPEG is very much capable of evaluating focus (or otherwise medium size). You will find the balance between file size (or resolution) and functionality. I have used sRAW on the 1Ds III and processed with CO4. Incredible![quote="stormphoto" wrote:

Maybe I was to optimistic here and confusing working with the WFT-transmitters (which you can tell to either send JPEG or RAW if shooting both) which reduce my previous comment to useless. I don't have a Canon dslr here to test. Okay, that will leave you with raw only as option. And approx. 20 MB per file is slow over USB, I agree. Can't change that I am afraid.0 -
