Is it possible to make Media Pro = Expression?
Hi:
1. Via the numerous posts on this forum and via my brief testing of Media Pro, I already know that Media Pro is... basically lame (ex: it is very very slow). What I want to honestly know is if I can configure Media Pro to work as well as Expression (not better, but at least as good). Here are some of the problems I've come across thus far:
a. As noted, Media Pro is super duper slow; I can't even quantify it but I'm going to guess it's at least 10-20 times slower than Expression Media. I have set the settings to the lowest quality and yet it takes forever to load up images (again compared to expression meda). What can I do about this? Note: I don't care about having super duper full rez images; I just need basic thumbnails.
b. Media pro has problems even rendering / scanning some media files. I can load up 100 PSD images and around 4-5 of them are going to be deemed unable to be scanned via Media Pro, even though when I double click on the thumbnail, I can see the actual image. Furthermore, Expression Media will have zero problems with properly scanning those images... What is going on here?
2. That's actually about it, but the above seriously reduces the functionality of this program. I know this is a rhetorical question but I thought incremental / new versions of a program is supposed to be step forward and not backwards???
Thanks for any help in advance. Harry

What OS are you using.
I am using Windows 7 Pro 64bit and had similar issues until:
1. I switched media rendering to Windows Imaging Component (WIC)
2. I bought (inexpensive) the codecs from FastPictureViewer. http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
I could then read all my files, and render them quickly.0 -
Jim:
1. Thanks for the info.
2. A few thoughts and questions:
a. I am on the MAC OS, however this is important enough that I don't mind purchasing Windows, putting it on my mac and running that applications IF I can use it as my DAM instead of expressions or media pro; is this transition possible with all of the keywording?
b. On a tangent, a semi-workaround for now, is to still use Microsoft expression to initially catalog my new images, save the file, open up media pro (my archive catalog) and then import the expression data into that (which does work and retains all the keywording). The reason I'm having all these problems is that my archive / main MS Expression file is now... corrupt (something is wrong with it because it'll open up fine but for the weirdest reason, I can't move any more images to the catalog; the application just freezes up). The application itself works fine with the current Mac OS because if I open up a new catalog, it'll import images just fine and thus I don't know what is going on...
Any other thoughts / suggestions appreciated. Harry0 -

I really can't answer this, as I don't know about the latest MAC OS.
What I do know is that I put all my keywords into sidecars, and that I can communicate keywords well between MP, Capture One, and Lightroom.0
