    I have one to add to your sorting gripes;

It is useful to be able to sort by processed state in the instance that a set of processed images need a global change and re-processing.
View / Arrange By / Processed State was available in v3, out with the bath water in v4

i didn't even go into the problems with the lightroom-like UI - everything is too dark and the text is hard to read. and my eyes are ok, except when using C1P.
also it is so hard to see the selected thumbnail with that thin white border. what were they thinking?
i don't complain just to hear myself talk - its b/c I have to use the software almost everyday it went from a great simple but powerful app to one that is convoluted, slow and not well thought out. It seems like C1P4 was never tested on a real life commercial shoot.

    Another SIMPLE one......
Please make the processed gear more visible in the browser. 🙄

Why can't it be green as the V3 days as grey is almost invisible at present.

Hi Gareth, I've been asking for a clearer developed symbol for months now as have other users.. its really hard to see the little grey cog.. honest it always seems to blend with the background of the shot taken..
Although once again I'm not going to hold my breath on this one, if we do keep banging on maybe someone at Phase will listen and make this much easier to see.
Also it would be nice if you could sort by processed state..

Come on Phase get this one sorted, please..

    Thanks

Here are some of the many problems and requests i have-

    1. importing from a CF card doesn't always go to the folder i select in the pull down menu. I will select it and then the software will choose a different folder. It takes a really long time for the thumbnails to populate. I now avoid this auto import feature. Is there a way to turn it off?
    2. During tethered shooting - if I do not have a floating window for next capture naming floating and open, sometimes captures are misnamed with the session name. very very annoying. if i go to a different folder or session the naming defaults to the session name unless i keep the floating window.
    3. Batch renaming will not work if I want a file to be renamed to the same name. Sometimes I want to rename some of the files in a folder b/c some are named wrong (see above), but it will not work if some have the correct name already.
    4. bring back the exposure and contrast keyboard shortcuts from 3.7. when tabbing around the exposure controls, i do not think it is necessary to have it select the sliders, only the numerical boxes.
5 the copy/apply adjustments in C14 is terrible beyond words, sorry. bring back the way it was in 3.7, also preview checkboxes are very helpful like in lightroom.
5a. the above cannot be overstated, i feel the way adjustments are handled in 4 is very poor. the way is was before was absolutely perfect.
    6. instead of or in addition to the color editor - how about implementing a hue/saturation dialogue like the way a photoshop hue/saturation adjustment layer works. very straightforward.
    7. obviously curves needs the individual channels back. can't imagine why we are on 4.8.3 and its not back
    8. need fractions in the custom crop guide
    9. the loupe in Leaf Capture is great, please incorporate it into C1 Pro.
    10. why are the panels not resizable? I have alot of process recipes and the window only shows 4, so i always have to scroll down.
    11. when starting C1 pro, I wish it would just open the last session. i don't understand the window asking me if i want to open the default session, no one uses the default session.
    12. big problem- I processed a big job the other day 1500 images. I've been using C1pro for years on many complicated shoots. sometimes the processed files do not go where i tell them to go. it seems the panels are really slow to take text input sometimes, especially during processing. maybe the software isn't always registering what is typed in the subfolder window under advanced?
    13. why did the software skip from version 4.2 to 4.5? is it a rush to get us to upgrade to 5? i don't mind paying for a good product but I am glad i didn't have to pay for 4 b/c its been really really difficult.
    14. the preferences seem alittle bare compared to 3.7
    15. another big problem - when going through folders to tag, if i rate photos and then sort the folder by rating, and then go to another folder and return to the folder that i sorted by rating, it defaults to sorting by name! so i have to sort it by rating again, this is really tedious - again it wasn't like that in 3.7
    16. also when going through folders i have to wait until all of the thumbnails generate then i can sort by rating. if you do not wait for the thumbnais and you sort by rating too early - not all of the ones you rated will move to the top. not ideal. especially when working with photographers and art directors who might miss some of the ones they tagged.

thats it for now. i hope these issues are addressed soon. it should be a professional workflow, they way it was beofre version 4.

    1. Improved importer workflow coming....
    2. This is a local bug... your preference file is not being updated properly. Delete it and it should begin to work properly again.
    3. Hmm... works fine on my end in 4.8.3
    4. Coming soon! (Finally!)
    5. Also to be vastly improved shortly
    6. Try the color balance wheel.. this is similar to hue as it relates to raw color, working on whitepoint. There are also global adjustments available in color editor, though it is more subtle.
    7. Required a fair amount of development to be properly implemented, but you will see it soon.
    8. Just remove the decimal, eg: 8.5x11 = 85x110
    9. It is cool, no doubt, we've got some good things coming though when it comes to checking focus.
    10. improvements coming here too.
    11. It will only do this if you close the last session window before quitting.
    12. Haven't seen this happen, but if I had to guess it could be a problem with either your session file or preferences file.
    13. It's a number. 4.1.2 to 4.5 was a pretty significant upgrade... basically went from LE with some tethering to the full pro, calling it 4.2 just didn't seem to due justice to the features added.
    14. Ok
    15. And it isnt supposed to be like this. Probably the same problem with your prefs file.
    16. Haven't heard/tested this before... will have to check it out.

    I would like to add:

17: possibility to add within a style the possibility of having auto CA correction
18: less destructive clarity function (it burns highlights like hell abobe 30) - LR2.5 clarity and highlight recovery works much better! sorry ☹️
19: to be able to switch with tab key from ALL field to field
20: have someone ask already for a real counter of files under process? yes!

Thanks! it will bring this brilliant software to … heaven ?-)

I would like to see the meta data editor come back. It is a pain having to go to another program to do it. Then Photo Mechanic will not see anything but .tif.

+1, why they took it away I'll never know?

I would love to see the drop-down options return for naming during tethered shooting - both for the files and the sessions. This is a huge time saver in 3.*

A session achiving feature would be useful too. Something which could strip out all the non essential files like previews etc and save disk space when burning, backing up off site or long term storing.

One niggle I'd love to see changed is when setting up a new session every process recipe is turned on by default. Therefore every time I have to go and turn most of them off (or occasionally process a ton of unwanted files). Could it not default to the last used set up (likely to be a popular choice)?

One other niggle is I find the session management awkward. I'd like the session part of the file manager window to include a recent session, new session launch etc., drop down box or similar rather than having to delve into layers of the file menu.

Secondly I'd like to see the file manager part operate separately to sessions. I'm sure most people work in a session most of the time but occasionally I want to find an odd file or maybe I have a couple of raws from my snappy on the desktop I want to quickly process and I want to do this this with out having to put them in a session and wait for it to all switch sessions or mess with the output settings of my current session, in a sense working like C1 4 did before going pro. When working from the file browser perhaps the process output could default to the same location as the raw file for example. If a file or folder was wanted in the current session then they could be added as a favourite or dragged in as currently, then, when back in the session workflow outputs would return to the session settings. A small thing but it often frustrates me.

I have seen dealers offering previews of C1 5 so looking forward to seeing what we get!

I have to add voice to the sorting woes. I had 2 cameras at an event, and one fell out of time sync with the other.

Merging the two in chrono-order seems impossible now. I'm unable to edit, or batch edit the capture date/time - and I cannot sort by anything other than file name or other limited columnar data.

Unless anyone can help with this otherwise? Is there a way to turn off sorting so I can drag/drop images in the output order I want?

Great! Yay! that's great news ... I'll have my butler chill the champagne
More promises. My clients love those too. Got a time in mind? How about sharing it?
Sticking with C1 through v4 has been the greatest test of my patience at work in more than a decade. Not exaggerating.

What is it with the numerology?? P1 gave themselves a pat on the back??!! Did they hand out team building trophies at the office? Features added? Like stripping metadata??
Someone obviously thought it was gold plated, but V4 has been class A crud from day one. From a user perspective going from 4.1 to 4.5 was confusing at least and polishing the **** at worst.

    to phase one staff-

Alot of us are very annoyed because you basically took a polished workflow and broke it. Many of us use it everyday for real work. Until we've had to move to Lightroom or Leaf, etc. Capture 4 was promised for a very long time, it was over a year late and what was finally released could hardly be called a finished product. Why bother releasing it then? All of the bugs - remember 4.5.2 it corrupted Canon files if there was a power loss? And removing the pro features - why release something w/o basic features. Was something like shadow/highlight going to make up for it? Anyway we all know Capture 4 has been a release disaster, please get it up to speed (to 3.7.9) and stable. And not everything can be blamed on bad prefs, I find issues occurring on all machines. That said - why not open up a public beta of Capture 5? Lets get it out in the open now so we can test it before its finalized. I think Capture 4's big problem is that it was never really tested in a fast, pro shooting environment. I'd be happy to do it.

Well said, I don't know who they tested CO4 on, but they were not your target audience. Please keep CO5 beta away from the kids and let us professionals tell you what needs to be changed. We are your target audience.

I just want to add one more thing to the list.
    - Having to reset the capture counter every time I make a new shot is a pain in the a%#*. Just let it reset itself

I wont argue with much of what it said here, and hopefully you will find that the changes we are introducing will help greatly to restore the workflow strengths of Capture One 3.

I will make a one point though. Public beta, sounds great in theory, but we tried this with CO4 and it was pretty much a disaster. The response we had was overwhelming and really proved a detriment to an efficient development process. we are now using a much more focused group and getting far more manageable/reliable feedback.

I managed to be able to work with the not so new anymore c1pro4 software for some time.

I dont understand why the last two versions are more bugy than any 4.x version so far..
I still dont understand why it is not possible to implement so many basic things like they have been asked for the whole year and before???

I would like to ad an other feature to the list..

Importing raws over card. Why cant i load them into a before created look like when i shoot tethered? I am so tired of photographers asking me not to show any pictures to customers without the look that has been created for the shoot. I mean - there are AD´s Stylists, Customers gluesticked to the screen. Should not be so hard to program. I bet a first year informatic student would be able to do.

I had thought that there surely must be a way to sort by processed state or, at the very least, to make the processed cog darker. Apparently, this is not the case? These two issues are such an inconvenience that I'm going to go back to using 3.x for my P45+ processing.

The instability that I encounter while shooting tethered also makes me yearn for 3.x. I just downloaded 5.x, and, having shot all day yesterday, was annoyed to see that little has changed in terms of the stability and overall experience from 4.x The focus utility now has a built in window like 3.x, which is welcome, but, otherwise, I don't see much to get excited about.

What's the deal, Phase? Version 3 was intuitive and worked great. A few nice new features aside, it's been downhill ever since. Is this a veiled strategy to sell more tickets to how-to workshops?
