    For MACs there is an implementation of Applescript available with C1 but I am not aware of an scripting tool, certainly no officially supported tool, for Windows.

    External DAM and internal DAM (you writes - catalog) why? Why do you not use external DAM and C1 in Session mode?
    By the way - which DAM system you are using?

    For the record, this is all I've found;

    • Start a "CaptureOne.exe" process with a single filename as an argument, the file is put in the import dialog.

    • Start a "CaptureOne.exe" process with a folder name as an argument, all files in the folder are put in the import dialog.

    • If the import dialog is already open, starting a new process with a single filename as an argument causes that file to be added to the already open import dialog.

    • Looping through each file that is needed and starting it in new C1P process (with a short delay between each) gives you a single import dialog with all of the files you want inside.

    If the file is already in the catalog, importing just gives an error when you try to import them.

    Some kind of scripting would be nice but it would be enough if starting C1P with a single filename just switched to showing that file if it was already in the catalog. Can't see any way to do that.

    Anyway, it's better than nothing.

    Yes, I think this would make more sense.

    Well to be honest, I'm still trying to work out the best workflow. I just switched to Acdsee for organising everything, even snapshots, phone pics and playing around. Really impressed with it's speed and variety of ways to bring up lists of images. I've got C1P for working on "proper" photos with a smaller more manageable catalog.

    If I use sessions, how can I set C1P to not open the catalog on start up? Or would I need to set up the session first? And if I ask it to open an image, would it know where to look for the session?

    Used to love using picasa for just browsing and enjoying photos and lightroom for being more arty and creative. Now it's acdsee and capture one.

    Appreciate the suggestions,

    Nick

    With Sessions you can browse the whose filesystem without importing anything. The only problem I see is that it will generate previews for anything you touch with it.

    I just tried to open a picture with capture one (having a given session already open) and it navigates to that folder and starts generating previews. It doesn't seem to select the picture I intended to edit, but assuming the directory doesn't contain hundreds of photos it's no big deal.

    I think you have to have the session already open to be sure. Typically it will open whatever was last used, be it catalog or session.
