I have created a process which opens the file in PS but it also saves it to disk which I would prefer not to do until after the PS step. Is there a way to process the file in C1 without specifying an Output Location?

No. Capture One always saves the output as a file to disk first.

Also, there is not system that actually transfers files without persisting them to disk. Usually though, the user doesn't see that because it is in a hidden, temporary directory/file.

Thanks! I was looking for the sort of integration I have in opening Lightroom files directly in Photoshop and saving only the Photoshop product as a TIFF. I can certainly live with generating an intermediate TIFF in order to benefit from the C1 RAW conversion.
