Media Pro Switch was smooth
Hi Forum,
this is really interesting. reading all the negative experiences about media pro, i was really skeptical and reluctant to give it a try. i only read the forum after i purchased the license since i thought coming from expression media it would be a nobrainer.
anyhow. as a DAM Server i am using a mac mini with 4 gig of ram.
it is running all kind of DAM software for testing purposes, since i am still deciding if i want to go with media pro or cumulus single user as a permanent DAM solution.
well i installed media pro yesterday on top of an existing em2 installation, enter the license code and went through all the preferences before i imported one single file. everything smooth so far. no crash, successful licensing and no error message.
i thought i would i would hit it hard and imported my entire library in one go, which is sitting on a readynas connected over gigabit ethernet. i gave media pro the root directory as source folder and let it do it's thing.
one night and 75743 cr2, tifs and jepegs later media pro is still up and running. no crash. since it is still building thumbnails, navigation through the gui was a bit slow this morning, but hey it is working.
only drawback so far. keywords are kind of cryptic a mentioned in other threads. i hope they fix that thing soon.
can't wait to see how cumulus 8.5 will perform, which was announced yesterday. they claim a 1TB catalog size.
just wanted to share my experience so far.

Nice to hear some positive experiences also!

No wonder ... he's using a MAC! 0 -
Same here. No problems so far. 50K plus originals, and all my derivative works, including PSD's TIF's etc.
PhaseOne clearly has some work to do still, but I am glad I finally have software that cares about and is focused on cataloguing.
Yes. I am using mac's.0 -
Well it works fine for me too .... but (a) it's an eyesore, and (b) it's lost basic, vital functionality compared to EM2. So for now I'm sticking with EM2. But at least we've got a responsive company in charge now which still deserves a chance to get things pointing in the right direction. I seem to remember early releases of IVMP v3 were somewhat shaky too.... 0 -
After day 1, my use of this has been rather simple and quite smooth - as long as I don't try to move around in the program while the program is "calculating". Day 1 was different - 3 crashes as I imported my main catalog from EM2.
However, I find that the rendering speed of a single image (from thumbnail to media) is painfully slow, even though I have a decent system. I avoid it as much as I can. I do as much as I can in CO6.2 before I move to MP.0 -
Have tried the trial. for about a month. Am quite happy with the program. I use it in conjuncion with C1 pro 6.2.. I was going out of trial period today so I've bought the license now and all in all I think it's a great tool at an attractive price point..
I want to use it as my catatlog DAM, I've set it up to max thumbnail size. Seems to be pretty snappy.. For careful checking of a series of images I suppose C1 with the loupe tool would be the way to go..
For broad based sturcturing of a big archive Media Pro is going to be great.. Also the Heirachcal Keywords seems like a very powerful feature..
About the slow load times when double clicking on thumbnails and the intergration with C1 pro.. It seems that these speed issues are tied in with the basic frame work of having a catatlogue and a Raw converter editor as two seperate entities.. I think I like the trade off as I want to use the catalogue to find my material as fast as possible.. When I'm in the Raw editor, I need powerful tools and will spend more time working on a single image or a few images in a series. then I don't want the huge catalogue active and bogging down the system..
