Adding to Catalogue after "Open With"

That's precisely why there are two options : one simply to open with another app, the other to edit with another app and bring the file back to C1.

Why would be the point if they both behaved the same?

They don't act the same - at least when using an external RAW converter.

If I take a C1 modified RAW file and "Edit With" the RAW is converted to a new TIF file that is added to the Catalogue and then opened in the external editor with the C1 modifications.

If I take a C1 modified RAW file and "Open WIth" the RAW is opened in the external editor without the C1 modifications and without a new TIF file being generated. When I exit the external editor a new TIF is generated but it is not in the C1 catalogue.

I use "Open With" so that the RAW file is opened in Photo Ninja rather than a TIF. (It is a far more effective program when working with RAW files).

This wouldn't be too much of a problem, but the Import Images tool is painfully slow when you ask it to disregard duplicates.

Of course they don't act the same, that's precisely why there are two options, as I said.

This might be easier if I asked a specific question.

When I want to edit a RAW file with Photo Ninja - and use C1 "Open With" to do so - is there an efficient way to include the resultant TIF file in my C1 catalogue? Right now I manually "Import Images", but doing that (with a disregard duplicates filter) takes a lot of time.

I suspect there is no way to have the new TIF auto-imported, but I'm also interested in how other people handle this situation.

I do similar with Capture One as the raw editor and Lightroom 6 as the manager. After I have processed the files in Capture One, I go back to the folder in Lightroom and 'Synchronize' the folder. That handles bringing all the new files back in automatically. I then just have to stack the original and the TIFF manually.

That solves my problem - thank you very much Tony - you really made my day.

Using "Synchronize" allows me to immediately import the newly created TIF rather than waiting 5 minutes when I use the Import tool with a disregard duplicates filter.
