Can you open more than one catalogue at the time? (Newbie)
I am trying to understand the software under trial to make a decision to by capture one and have some questions.
(sorry: maybe all this has been answered before)
1. Can I open more than one catalogue at the time? (it sounds like this is not possible in the trial version but in the full version?
2. Would a catalogue with 100.000 (or more) photos work well? (I have aperture catalogues to transfer with up to 600 GB)
3. how am I sure the photos are copied to the catalogue? My import from aperture did not seem to copy everything. The original version is 25GB for 1300 photos, the catalogue ended up with around 800 MB. What did I do wrong or is this also a problem with the trial version?
4. When I buy now, will version 10 be a paid upgrade or would it be included?

1) you can have multiple catalogs open at any time
2) you can use the Aperature catalog importer in CO, and see for your self.
3) Depending on whether or not the files are referenced or managed, you catalog-size may vary
4) A full number increase will always be paid (like 8 -> 9). But all release within a number will always be free (like 9.0 -> 9.3). You can also look into the subscription model instead, where you pay a monthly fee instead, and will always access to the newest version, regardless of version-numbers.0 -
40,000 images in a catalog seems to be the point where things really start to go pear-shaped (searching, tagging, scrolling, etc.). 20,000 is about the limit for where it still feels ok. This is with the catalog on an SSD, which improves loading times, but it's nowhere near as good as Aperture in that respect. I have separate catalogs per year, and in the fall when they go past the 20,000 mark is where I feel things starting to bog down, but they're still plenty usable even if the trend is not looking good. Everything I've heard suggests that the 40,000+ and especially 100,000+ catalogs become total dumpster fires and are best split up. 0
