The few times I have experienced this (Windows PC) all had to do with C1 reloading an empty field from from a different source, meaning from the image file or from the XMP sidecar file.

I would not expect this to happen if the second instance of C1 gets a full copy of a session. If the second instance only sees part of the work, it may perhaps reload metadata from images or XMPs. Try setting metadata in the first C1 instance and then select images and do Metadata -> Sync Metadata before copying the session to the second computer. That should, at least in theory, write out metadata to XMPs that the second C1 instance should be able to read using Metadata -> Reload Metadata.

    Dear all,
I can confirm the behaviour (on co12 windows), that
    NN635042552035165567UL
described. In my case it it a session, that was imported into a catalog. While I wanted to maintain rating I had the same behaviour. I applied a rating and go one to the next image. only seconds later the rating is lost. So in my case the image had NO stars, I applied 4 stars and moments later I was back to NO stars. What I have not checked is, what happens to an image that already got in the session some stars and gets a different rating in the catalog. Whether it also goes to 0 stars or to the session rating. Nevertheless I am to see, that I am not allone, but I also havent't found a solution. This is not normal and the source must be identified immediately.

Is there meanwhile anything to overcome this?

(And I have an additional question: Why don't I get informed, when there is a new answer in this thread. Is there a setting panel to switch that on? This is only my second post in this forum and I would be grateful for a hint)

Did you check on what OddS suggested about XMP files? In Preferences, on the Image tab look at the Metadata section. What is set in the drop down options for Auto sidecar XMP: None, Load, or Full Sync? And how are the two check-boxes under that set? It is possible that what is happening is that the preferences have been set to synchronise metadata, so that every time you change a rating in Capture One it dutifully looks at your preferences and changes it back.

Also to get notifications of replies to your posts, there is a checkbox just under the window where you type your message saying Notify me when a reply is received. (The setting is persistent - I set it once to that years ago, and I have never had to reset it again.)

    Thanks Ian3,
I must confess, that I didn't check. I will do asap, when I have access to the computer with CaptureOne again. Also thanks for the second hint!

    So,
just sitting in front of my slotmachine, it reveled, that my settings were set to "full sync". I have set that back to default. As usual the real problem is 2 feet in front of screen.... I need to check if that leads to the expected behaviour. I keep you posted..

I usually have it set to None. I put it to Load if I want to for a specific reason, then set it back to None again afterwards.

I think I just had the same issue. Posted in the forum and then saw this. Did you ever figure out if the Metadata settings were the source of the star ratings disappearing? I checked mine and my laptop was different than my desktop which I'm thinking over wrote all the ratings.

It was the only thing I changed. From "full sync" to "default" and that seemed to be the trick. What I didn't check is, whether other apps or a second installation of CO lives in peace and harmony with those settings.
