New graphics card and OpenCL in C1
My new Radeon HD 7870 is not on the list of supported graphics cards. That list hasn't been updated since March.
Is that why OpenCL is greyed out so that I can not enable it in C1 preferences? I've got up-to-date drivers and AMD Catalyst software, so that's not the issue.
Is there any way to manually update the list of supported cards so I can use OpenCL? Phase One hypes its OpenCL support, but the list of supported cards is out of date and does not contain many of the most recent cards (e.g. AMD's 7000 series.)

Just throwing this in...this is after all a user-to-user forum rather than PhaseOne support....but AFAIK, graphics card support is not the same thing as camera support under CaptureOne. Cameras have to be profiled, while graphics cards and OpenCL are a part of your system. I am using a card (Nvidia) too new to be listed under COne support...but OpenCL works just fine. the catalog of supported cards is only updated sporatically (just as other software runs behind what's available currently as well), but that doesn't mean it won't function well.
I do use an AMD card on a COne computer, and I remember when installing it, I had to install a separate file to enable OpenCL...I belive that is no longer the case with catalyst...but perhaps you could report a little more info as far as which version of Catalyst you are using under which OS.
I'd also throw that more specific info into a support case directly to COne in case there is an issue.0 -
Thanks John. I just assumed OpenCL was greyed out because the card wasn't on the list, but if yours has OpenCL working then that's obviously not the case.
Off to file a support case.0 -

I'm just finishing up installing a new HP Envy laptop with the same graphics card.
My "Use OpenCL" came up just fine and is set to auto.

Well that's very interesting. Phase One Support responded and told me the card is not supported, and that they would consider it for a future release.
"I will send your request to our developers to see what can be done to accomidate this card in a future release."

Hmmm....
My cpu is different from my current sig. I have the 3rd gen i7.
For what it is worth, my Radeon driver version is 8.951.9.10000 -
Thanks Jim. I also have 3rd gen i7, the 3770k. I'll have to look up the Radeon driver, but it's whatever is the most recent on AMD's site, with Catalyst 12.8. And Intel OpenCL is showing as installed as well. That's the driver that came with the AMD package.
Here is P1's response, after I referred them to this thread. Not sure what they are talking about - have you folks "done something outside of Capture One to enable the card"???Mitch,
The customer you have referenced on the forum seems to have done something outside of Capture One in order to enable this card with the software. I cannot speak for what they have done or how they have done it. There are few details in their response and you are welcome to follow up with that use if you have any further questions regarding how they have gotten the card to work.
From our a support perspective, the card in question has never had support implemented in Capture One and therefore is simply not supported at this time. I have requested that the card and it's drivers be evaluated for future implamentation.
Kind Regards,
Phase One Support0 -

I suppose that is technically true.
I opened up the box that HP shipped the laptop in, and turned on the machine.
Right after boot up, it asked for a Windows update which I did. I downloaded Firefox, my preferred browser.
I then downloaded the latest version of CO and MP. I installed them on my C drive - which is a SSD. I then loaded all my photos from my back up drive onto the internal spinning drive. I opened up CO, and gave it the key code.
I looked under preferences, and Use OpenCL was enabled to AUTO.
What more can I say.
One minor detail, perhaps major - when I look at the device manager, then display adapters, it lists 2 devices:
Intel HD graphics 4000
Radeon HD 7850M
I also use an external monitor which is set to be my primary monitor. I downloaded the Dells drivers for that.
Other than that, I have done nothing that I would consider "extra" in order to get the Auto OpenCL working.0 -
Hey Jim, thanks very much for posting that. I was looking over your list, thinking I did everything the same. Then I remembered I did ONE thing different - at first I installed the AMD drivers which came on the disc with my video card, and then I updated them using the drivers from the AMD site.
This afternoon I happened to come across a photoshop forum where someone posted similar OpenCL problems, and folks there pointed out that sometimes AMD drivers don't get properly uninstalled/reinstalled when doing an update. This may be a problem with AMD's installation package.
Then I found a GPU testing utility (GPU Caps Viewer, a free download at MajorGeeks) which confirmed my OpenCL was not available!
So I completely uninstalled all AMD software on my computer (following the directions here: http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/20 ... ivers.aspx)
Then reinstalled everything.
Voila! GPU Viewer now says I have OpenCL. The final test: I opened Capture One and there it was. Still set to Never, but no longer greyed out. I changed it to Auto.
Problem solved!
Woot!

WOO WOO !
Super !
At times I think I know what I am doing; at other times I feel like no one knows what they are doing when it comes to software. Often, esp in the Windows world, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. You would think that AMD could get it right.
