Use of CO 5 instead of CO6?
Hello,
CO6 is not working properly on my System ("out of memory", XP 32bit, 4GB RAM).
So, is it possible to install and use CO5 on my computer by using the license file of CO6? Do I have to activate CO5 once more?
Regards
Wolfgang

Yes, you can install CO5 next to CO6 on a Windows system and use it (not concurrently). If necessary, activate CO5 with your CO6 key.
Tip: keep an eye on upcoming update of CO6 re. the out of memory error and try again when it (the update) surfaces.0 -
Thank you, Paul.

I elected to wait and see regarding upgrading. I assume from this thread and others that there is little point upgrading at the moment until teething problems are at least ironed out? (i'm currently using CO5, which does me OK for now, and would be upgrading to CO6 Express if I ever do upgrade) 0 -

Based on the (number of) issues you read about here you can safely assume the majority of users is running CO6 to their satisfaction, is my firm belief. This forum is mainly used for solving issues and a collection of issues as a result. A great deal of threads is about how to use the program.
Best is to make your own assessment, which is called a 30-day trial and see whether it adds value to your photo workflow.0 -

I suspect you are correct. Although not a heavy user, CO 6 has been stable on my 32 bit XP system. I have not experienced the batch crashes and out of memory issues since 6.1.10 -

Which isn't the same as saying that 6 is a worthwhile upgrade over 5, which is what I imagine Ron is wondering about.
Against my better judgment (having been deeply unimpressed with 6 Express when it was released) I upgraded from 5 anyway, and I can say with absolute sincerity that doing so proved to be a waste of my money.0 -

That is why I added a second statement in my post here, which you did not quote: make your own assessment from a 30-day trial and don't base your judgement on other's experiences only, whether they are raved about it or unhappy.0 -
Cheers for the feedback all. I may give it a spin on the trial after the next update and when i've got a decent chunk of new material to sift through. 0 -
As a bit of an update i'm about 16 days and a few big shoots into a trial of COE6. Its been well behaved and can't think of it going belly up on me (about only the last 6 days has been with 6.2), closest is the odd graphic glitch which generally sorts out after forcing a screen redraw anyway. It certainly starts up a bit faster than CO5 did, although I don't notice any huge differences in performance once its up and running (proxy generating for large folders and batch processing are still 'go off and brew up' jobs).
To be honest the number of improvements in 6 Express over 5 (most the new features are either of little interest or stuff I have in other packages) is so small versus the upgrade cost (which I think comes out just over £50 after VAT) that i'm probably going to go back and stick with CO5 when the trial ends, for certainly the time being at least.0
