New COP8 adopter; update planned to MP 1.4.2? (please?)
Hi everyone.
I'm a longtime user of Media Pro, from the iView days through the Microsoft versions and now up to v1.4.2 Mac. When I was using it professionally at a newspaper, I leveraged the AppleScript capability HEAVILY to help organize and prepare images for import into our Cumulus DAM. *shudders*
Anyway, as Apple has decided to let Aperture rot on the vine, I looked around at the other options; LR and COP. There are a few things LR can do that COP can't, but COP is just so much more intuitive so I took the plunge and bought a full license. So now I've got a full MP license and a COP license.
I had stopped using MP a few months back when it had fallen behind Apple's technological updates. It's still a 32-bit app, which sort of mostly behaves most of the time on Mavericks and Yosemite which are 64-bit OSes. I'm very, very hopeful that MP will receive an update to 64-bit. I don't even care about any new features, please just make it fully compatible?
Has anyone heard any update plans or a time frame for updates to MP? (my Aperture library is importing into COP8 even as we speak...)
Best wishes to all. If I can help anyone with AppleScript functionality please just ask and I'll do what I can.
Thanks!
Jim.

All I can say is: Yes!
More information to come when public (We don't talk about unannounced products)0 -
Ulf,
Thanks so much for the response!
Can you give me a time frame perhaps? The next six months? This year?
Do you announce products at the big photo shows, like Photokina?
I'd really rather stick with MediaPro, since it's an interface I'm familiar with and I have a large library of AppleScripts to help me get things done. However, if I have to wait too much longer, alternatives look better and better. :/
Best wishes,

That's very interesting. I'm in the same situation, finally decided that staying with Aperture is one way or the other the Road To Nowhere. Pity, as it is head & shoulders above any competitor, from several points of view, in my opinion.
But I'm also a very long term MediaPro user, and it was (is?) a candidate to replace the DAM functionality in Aperture in my workflow. However, it is missing several key features which in 2015 really are no longer forgivable. So I've been evaluating Photo Supreme, and am very nearly decided to adopt it. It isn't quite as elegant as Media Pro, and works differently, but it is actively developed and has several headline features which MediaPro lacks (hint: Versions).
Personally I have never had any stability, performance or reliability issues with any version of MediaPro, and it is still the foundation of the film-based part of my workflow. I have well over a decade of work invested in it, and therefore, if PhaseOne were to officially declare that it is part of their ongoing product portfolio / strategy, then I'd be inclined to wait around to hear the details.
Surely some kind of very generic statement would not be too much to ask, after all this time ? Even Apple eventually came clean on Aperture...0 -

Didn't I do that above?0 -

Yes, indeed you did, but there would be a world of difference between "we're going to do the bare minimum to make it compatible with CO8" (which is what one might infer from the context of this topic) and "Media Pro is a strategics part of our portfolio and remains under development".
I'm not going to stamp my feet and foam at the mouth like some around here - I understand the business issues. But I am interested to know if PhaseOne are interested in retaining a customer base for MediaPro. And I fully acknowledge appreciate that you've already stepped over the corporate "no discussion of future products" line.
I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed, touch wood, and go and light a votive candle or something 😎0 -
I appreciate you understand my dilemma.
Yet not announced, but I do want to give you guys at least some information since you have been waiting too long for an update.
Two things:
* Capture One 8.x compatible RAW rendering engine
* Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite compatibility.0 -
Ulf,
Thanks man. You just made my day, if not my month!
Eagerly awaiting your announcement.
