Movie Files: No preview thumbnails?
I want to use Media Pro to manage my movies however when I bring the .mov files into Media Pro the thumbnails do not populate. I've tried selecting and rebuilding the items but this doesn't seem to do anything.
Does Media Pro support thumbnail previews for .mov files?
Any help or advice would be very much appreciated!

Expression Media, the predecessor of Media Pro, does show thumbnails of my Quicktime (.mov) files. At the screenshot you can see these files do not show thumnails in Windows Explorer but they do in EM: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/25580003/MovThumb.JPG
However, .mov is a media container format and that means it can contain several types of data, such as audio and video and they contain data that has been compressed using a video compression format or codec. I think you need the proper codec(s) to see the thumnails but i'm no expert on the subject...

Thanks for your response Roelof.
I previously used Expression Media also and had no trouble seeing previews for my .mov files. This is my first time working with .mov files since switching to Media Pro. I have tried using a number of different standard codecs and still can't see the preview thumbnails. I'm using Windows 7 which has no trouble showing me large thumbnails for the same files in explorer so I don't think its a codec issue.
Thanks for your help,

Try hard to avoid having to downgrade your installation from EM to MP.
In case you haven't realised, EM was a downgrade from IVMP and MP is a downgrade from EM.
Unfortunately, OS updates have forced these downgrades on many.0 -
I think I just found a solution. FIVE YEARS after this thread????? Anyhow, here goes: Open your catalog with photo and video files randomly dispersed. Do a SORT - BY FILE TYPE. That's it, all of the video style thumbnails (.dv, .avi, .mov etc) show up nicely. And, as of yesterday, the PhaseOne technical support did not know about this, either.
I can only surmise that PhaseOne grabbed a version of the iView Media Pro / Expression Media install program that was stuck at a faulty line and my little exercise just released the uninhibited version. It just blows my mind that nobody in all these years performed a SORT and observed this little miracle.
Full disclosure: I am on a Mac, still using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and haven't got around to testing my new insight on Mavericks or Yosemite, neither have I asked my son to check this out on his PC.

In my case, the files with thumbnails that don't show are .mp4 UHD AVC Coded video files. I've tried the sort by file type and just get a nice selection of black thumbnails. This is a bit disappointing since it's the direction forward. I'm hoping someone at PO will take notice and attempt a fix. 0 -

Don't hope, raise a support case. That's the only way they'll start to do something.0 -

I know, but i didn't want to spell that out in my post, everyone has to decide for themselves. You and i have decided already 😭 😭 😭0 -
Do i see it right my post is removed?
After all my building up postings a little critique is to much for Phase One?
I would say: put these kind of effort in the product!0 -
Yes, also check your profile for warnings about not conforming to the forum rules.
Constructive critique is not an issue since it is essentially a positive thing.
But to criticise just to criticise is not ok and is against the forum rules.0 -
Wel thank you Ulf for your feedback. This is the first time someone from Phase One has done this.
However it's sad that it must be this theme thats getting response and not the matters of substance.
I expect this critique is against forum rules also?
So be it. It will be my last posting anyway.
