Yes, an SDk was released recently and our Software guys are looking into it. It certainly won't be done overnight and depending on what else needs to be adjusted to implement it, the support could take some time.
The tricky thing with Canon is we want to implement new tethered support but want to try to avoid losing other cameras tethered abilities. You may remember the last time we changed the Canon SDK we gained tethered support for the 5D Mark II but lost support for the 1D Mark II. 😭0 -
OK thanks for the response it will be great when all done

I just want to confirm,
Can I shoot the 5D mkIII to card and import, open, and process the RAWS in 6.4.2 ? Running mac 10.6.8
Thanks in advance,

Hi Drew,
Is there any ballpark idea on when tethered support update for Markiii might be out?
I stupidly sold my markii and am stuck shooting to Aperture which works only sometimes! urgh...0 -

Hi Dale, yes, you can. The full raw (mraw/sraw not yet) is supported. You know you can always check the release notes for supported files and tethering.0 -

At this time there is no ETA.
You can always shoot tethered with Canon Software and then use the HotFolder option in Capture One.0 -
Drew, Hi, how do you use the hot folder option (please be specific!) 0 -
My capture one doesn't seem to be able to handle my full raw mark iii files. Having trouble viewing them. Won't pass the fuzzy mid view and will not process. If I quit and restart it will show me a few full res and after about 4 it can't keep up. Feels sluggish too. Had to use Lightroom 4 and I hate it!

Sounds like either the OpenCL is incompatible or the location of the files has some access issues.
Try turning the OpenCL preference in the software to "Never" and if that doesn't solve the problem move the files to a new location on your Local Drive.0 -
Hi Drew,
thanks for the reply. The problem with using EOS utility / canon software is that it's well known for it crashing alot (and it's a clumsy interface). I did use it for a while with a hot folder and ended up ditching it as a way to work due to crashing. I would be happy to try a Beta version when available...

It's been 3 months since I received my 5d Mark3 and still no tethering through C1. I know Phase didn't get the SDK straight away, but can you at least acknowledge that this process has taken much longer than with previous new cameras? I've been using C1 since 2005 and I don't ever remember a delay this long.
With plans to buy the 1Dx next month, should I expect to wait till at least September for C1 tethering capabilities?
For those who've updated to C1 6.4.x, are you liking the way 5D mk3 files are looking compared to Lightroom 4?0 -

I do. It is part of the experience that comes with 3rd party raw developers. Looking back, raw support comes first and a few months later tethering support. As a user you like to have it from day one (counting from your day of purchase), of course.
However, both Canon and Phase One have their release schedules. That'll put early adopters sometimes in the waiting seat.0 -

If you look back at our track record, a 3 month wait is fairly standard for support of just RAW files. Tethered support doesn't have much of an average time expectancy when looking to the past but if you take your cameras predecessor, the 5D Mark II, it actually took more than 6 months to implement tethered support. That is of course no indication for what it will be with the 5D Mark III but it's important to take into consideration.0 -
Any update on tethered support for 5D Mark3?
I check almost everyday.. sometimes even twice a day!!..😉.. Just joining the conversation so that I am notified as soon as the Phase One guys provide this feature and some kind soul posts the good news on this thread..😊..0 -
Capture One 6.4.3 is released today. It has tethering support for the Canon 5D mkIII. 0 -
Thanks Drew that was quick, it's working perfectly here with MacPro and 8core Powermac.
Nice work
