no i've always shot with it off as that was what was recommended - I guess I was just hoping for a better explanation of what it might do in this situation.

I believe it would move part of the program running to the graphics card but I'm not actually entirely clear on this?

Also was wondering if anyone else had been experiencing a slower rendering time on previews/thumbnails/zooming in with focus?

I am shooting with a Canon 5Ds so large files, but I have been consistently having this issue even with a medium formats and other camera systems as well

    Are you mainly shooting tethered?

I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

If it's viable for the camera/type of adjustment activating OpenCL will indeed shift parts of the processing onto the GPU card(s) and leave some with the CPU.

I think with the latest updates for C1 and OSX there is a good chance that all will be well. If not you may see some odd results in Previews and output files. In which case turn OpenCL off again and continue as before.

    HTH.

When you go onto the display settings in your system preferences what is the resolution set for the display.
Also in Capture 9 Preferences what is the preview image size (1440/1920/etc)?
