Length of keywords

Is there any limit to the length of a keyword? I am looking at some butterfly pictures at the moment and I seem to have got away with adding Insect>Butterfly>Sapho longwing butterfly (Heliconius sapho) to the hierarchical keywords. But several species have more than one common name. (Another Heliconius butterfly is variously known as the postman butterfly, red passion-flower butterfly or crimson-patched longwing.) Is there any limit to how long I can make a keyword?

    In theory there is no limit for keyword length with IPTC4XMP which Media Pro supports. Other software that only supports the older IIM spec has a limit of 64 characters for keywords. See dpBestflow for more info: http://www.dpbestflow.org/metadata/iptc
