You didn't use ctrl-delete by any chance?
Are (were) the files local or on a network drive?
    Do you have filters applied?

Normally with delete they should be in the session trash indeed

I just use the X icon to delete, local files, but when I select trash, yr right it first says filtered & about 700 files, then quickly changes to only about 100. I look at the filter tool but it's always been a little confusing to me & I don't see any filters applied. Now I tried to reproduce it by clicking trash again it doesn't show 700 & only the 100??

It sounds like there's a filter used.
If you clear the filter (the x next to the magnifying glass) it should say 700 of 700.
Check the dates, rating and color filters too 😊

Thanks. I asked support also & they said the same thing. They also said:
Once reason you might see 700 on the side and 100 in the folder itself is that sometimes the library entry of the trash folder will list all files in the trash folder including thumbnails, preview files etc, rather than just the images.
