Image 'flashes' with edits.
I've had this problem since I purchased CO 9 new. Installed on 27 inch iMac late 2015.
Hard to describe but when I make any color or tone adjustments on an image the image flashes on the screen as if everything were brightened. This lasts a fraction of a second but is very distracting when trying to make subtle changes. After the 'flash' the edit is in place as adjusted. It does not do it every time or with every image but it does it with most images most of the time.
Regardless of the CPU settings and such the behavior persisted.
I opened a support file with Phase One. Sent them a video of the behavior. They were never able to help fix it.
I hoped upgrading to CO 10 would help. It did not.
So, I'm not expecting anyone to fix this at this point. But, I am going to put more RAM in the iMac to see if that will help general CO performance and I wonder if there is any chance it will help with this problem.
Edit: CO 9 on my 9 year old MacBook Pro does not have this behavior but it has twice as much RAM as the iMac....that's why I'm wondering if RAM will help.

Have you tried changing the settings for hardware acceleration? Capture One>Preferences>General then change the settings under Hardware Acceleration (use Open CL for...)

I've noticed this issue as well - was about to post about it myself!
Interestingly though, I can't seem reproduce it with CO 9. I also don't remember seeing this in the previous versions of CO 10, but can't be 100% sure.
This problem appears to be more obvious with higher sharpness/clarity/structure settings. I notice this behavior while adjusting various sliders and when temporarily resetting adjustments (even when no adjustments were actually made - it's bizarre). Open GL settings seem to have no effect.
Basically the image will get brighter for a moment (mostly noticeable in highlights), then return to its normal brightness.
I made a couple of videos to illustrate the problem (make sure to download them, Dropbox playback quality is pretty bad).

Greetings
I've had occasional problems with what I've described as images "blowing out" during adjustment (see post Screen blowing out when sliders are used - ).
I can see no pattern to it. It happens very occasionally with files including Nikon and Fuji raw, and JPEGs.
BTW, russkny: brilliant idea to post a video. I don't know why I didn't think of that.
Hopefully, Phase One will address this annoying issue.

Hi all,
I just submitted a technical support case for this issue. The reference number is 254971.
I would suggest others to the same.
Best,

I also have had this problem with some images. It does not occur in all images and I cannot identify the type of image or the edit that causes it. I opened a case with tech support a couple of months ago, but they were unable to solve the problem. I will be interested in any solution you find. 0 -
Hi Bob,
Try the following and let me know of you notice this issue. Crank up the sharpness to a high value, like 800 and then try clicking on the name of any slider to temporarily reset it. You should also notice this flashing problem when making adjustments to other parameters, like brightness, contrast and exposure. Simply click inside the box of any of those adjustments and press the up key to increase the value slowly.
I installed CO version 10.0.0 last night and don't see this issue happening. Here's another video I made comparing the behavior of version 10.0.0 and 10.1.2.
Please let me know your findings.
Best,
Russ0 -
Thanks for the suggestion Russ. However it does not seem to help. I continue to get the problem with some images, but not all of them. I cannot find any correlation with the images that work correctly and those that do not.. Also I see that my preferences states that hardware acceleration does not work. am use an IMAC 5k Mid 2015, sunning the latest OS with a AMD Radeon R9 M290 2048 MB card. I think the celebration should be working, and perhaps this is the case of the problem, although it occurs if I when off the hardware acceleration.

I've had the issue with each version since 9.0. It seems odd to me that it does not occur in CO9 on my laptop. Only on the iMac. I still wonder if it is a RAM issue. 0 -
I do not think it is a ram issue. I have 32 gb and I still have the problem with some images. I have tried but I cannot id the type of image that causes the problem. 0 -
Hi all,
I actually installed CO 10.0.0 on my computer and this issue does not happen with that version. I can consistently reproduce the problem in 10.1.2, with any of my images, but opening the same session on 10.0.0 does not exhibit the same problem.
I made two more videos comparing what happens in CO v10.0.0 and v10.1.2 with high sharpness settings, while adjusting parameters that do not drastically effect image brightness.
(please download the videos, otherwise poor streaming quality makes it very hard to see the problem)

Notice how the issue is not observed in v10.0.0.

Hi,
Has anyone else been able to reproduce this issue? I can reproduce it on two separate systems, but wanted to get more feedback from other users.
Here are the steps to reproduce the problem:
-CO version 10.0.3 or later
-Open CL set to Auto, Never
-Sharpness set to 800-1000
-Zoom image to 100%
-Attempt to make any adjustments to the image (e.g. Saturation) in one step increments.
You should see the image temporarily becoming noticeably brighter, then reverting to its original state as adjustments are made or sliders are temporarily reset by clicking on their name.
Thank you in advance!

Gidday Russ
That does produce an effect for me, but frankly, I can't imagine a situation where I'd crank up sharpening to that level.
My issue remains that on certain images, the whole image blows out to an incredible degree while actually adjusting using sliders. I can see no pattern to this: it can be raw, JPEG or TIF, it will be a single image while others in the same catalogue are fine - and C1 has been doing this for a while.
I've reported it but even I can see that without being able to replicate the issue or see a pattern, there's not a lot Phase One can do.
That said, for the minority (< 1%) of images where this occurs, adjustment is problematic to say the least.
Thanks for your efforts and good luck with this.0 -
I am able to reproduce this flashing if the sliders in high dynamic range are set around half 0 -
I am having this problem with V21 with images that are high resolution and have multiple layers. Crazy it hasn't been fixed yet.
