Reasons to be cheerfull
Ok so after a long wait Capture 1 V4 is finally with us, and not everybody likes it judging by the amount of negativity on these forums, having said that the vast majority of users both Pro's and Hobby Photographers will adapt their workflow to suite and will be very happy with it.
Although it produces beautiful image files, I have always found V3 to be a bit on the quirky side when it comes to file management, however in the limited time I have used V4 I have found it to be a lot better, so a central image cache would be very nice, so would the ability to automatically create an output folder within the image folder but lets face it the resulting image files and speed of operation more than make up for these shortcomings. What I particularly like the fact that I can now assign C1 as an helper app in MS Expression Media and open a folder of Raw files in C1 from within Expression Media, brilliant. So now I can ingest the images into Expression Media sort them, rate them, add keywords ect, process them in C1, synchronise the metadata in the resulting tiffs, use them for whatever, archive them and most importantly I now have the ability to revisit any image using in C1 in the archive easily via the catalogue, a process that IMHO could get messy in previous versions, plus remember that as all the settings files and the cache are kept within the archive in the image folders, the images can be revisited in C1 on any computer with C1 installed using the existing settings files.
What I would like to see is the ratings assigned in C1 being made visible to external apps and visa versa.
Stu 😊
