Need a quick clarification on "User Presets".
Hi All,
Relatively new here to Capture One. Currently using C1 11. I've had C1 loaded on my computer since late version 9. But due to weird learning curve issues, I keeping winding up back working on Lightroom 6, due to the basic need to get clients work done in some sort of a timely fashion.
A current issue (or at least, an aggravation) is how the User Presets seem to work. Looking for clarifications.
In the bigger picture, the whole idea with Copy and Pasting an image's settings, such as synchronizing multiple images at a time, requires manually opening the Adjustments Clipboard and selecting each of the settings you might want to be applied. And to "clear all" or "select all" you have to "click/pull-down/select" that function from the upper right menu. Comparatively, if you want sync settings between images in LR6, you select them, click sync ( or "Command-S", as I do) and a box pops up. "Select All" or "Select None" are the biggest buttons in the pop-up window. Relatively, a much quicker process than the changing Tabs, and clicking down into menus as in C1. Admittedly, I know I'm still finding my way in C1, so I feel sure I must be missing the obvious here as far as my workflow performance issues. But I am trying. 😉
All that being said, back to my questions concerning "User Presets".
So are the "User Presets" individually applicable and accumulative?
As in, I should be able to apply a preset for exposure such as "Exposure +5", and then add a preset for contrast, such as "Contrast +10", and so on. Correct?
Currently, what I'm seeing is that when I apply a created preset such as a boost of "Contrast + 10", it is resetting Exposure, Saturation and Brightness all to "0"! When I create a Preset for any individual item in, for example, the "Exposure" panel, I do select only one item to be included. But when I try to use that preset, such as the one mentioned above, it resets the other items in the Exposure panel back to "0". Or say "Saturation +20", same thing, it will reset Exposure, Contrast, and Brightness back to "0". I am selecting that item only when I create the preset from the dialog box.
As I read it in the C1 v11 Help Guide, I should be able to add presets to the background layer, accusatively. As long as they are separate commands/adjustments. Is this correct?
Or is what I'm seeing a feature, or a bug?

On the Adjustments menu, you can select Copy and apply adjustments. There are checkboxes in there for pretty much everything. If you just check the Exposure, you get everything copied. But if you click the title triangle, you can select each of Exposure, Contrast, Brightness and Saturation separately. It's probably a bit slow to go through the whole list one by one and select/deselect the ones you want, but you can then apply that to multiple images at once.
Or am I missing what you are asking?

Copying adjustments from one image to another is easier via Adjustments > Copy Adjustments/Apply Adjustments, or add the Copy/Apply Adjustments arrow to the toolbar. It sounds like you have the Adjustments Clipboard set to not automatically pick up changes that have been made. In the Adjustments Clipboard dropdown menu (the ... at the right of the tool), be sure that you have Autoselect Adjusted checked off. If you want to copy a specific tool's settings to another image, you can use the double-ended arrow in the titlebar for that tool. Be sure you have Edit All Selected Variants checked off in the Edit menu, or you won't be able to, well, edit all the selected variants with the apply move.[quote="NNN634490888396516296" wrote:

Both. In the presets menu (three horizontal lines at the right) of the tool, if you want the presets to be cumulative, check off "Stack Presets" (in most tools) or "Stack Styles" (in the Styles and Presets tool). If that's not checked, any 0-value adjustment in the preset will persist. For example, if you create a preset called "Exp +1 Sat +15" in the Exposure tool of:- Exposure +1
Contrast 0
Brightness 0
Saturation 15
and another, Con -10:- Exposure 0
Contrast -10
Brightness 0
Saturation 0
With Stack enabled (with the check), and both applied, you would have"- Exposure +1
Contrast -10
Brightness 0
Saturation 15
With Stack disabled (without the check), you'll get the values of the last added (let's assume the second, Con -10):- Exposure 0
Contrast -10
Brightness 0
Saturation 00 -
Thanks for the feedback guys. Much appreciated.
I think it's the "Stackable" in the tool drop-down that was what I was missing. I've turned that on and am now getting exactly that, stackable added presets.
Also, I was unaware of the "Auto-Select Adjust" setting in the Adjustments Clipboard. I will take a look at that.0
