Hi Rick,
With CO4 you can batch rename file names during IMPORT (capture name, job name, counter). Please see the Import Images dialog for details.
Also, you can batch rename file names during OUTPUT (or process) with the same parameters (capture name, job name, counter). Please see the Output Tools tab under Output Naming for details.
The upcoming CO4 Pro might (I repeat: might) have more batch renaming options.0 -
I have been working with Capture One 4 for just a few days. I have had trouble understanding how to do things. I have read and re-read the owner's guide.
I would like to number my files by time so that they are in chronological time. I can't figure out how to do that. Can anyone help.
Thanks.

Hmm, not sure I understand the question properly. Let's try:
1. You are looking for a way to rename on import where the renamed file reflects data/time of exposure? CO4 is rather limited in renaming (yet), but you can use a job name + sequence number on import.
2. You are looking for a way to sort your image in CO4. You can sort the thumbnails in the Browser by Date. This is handy is you have images from multiple sources (more people took picture during an event) with file names that do not align chronologically.
For specific needs regarding renaming files, a separate and more sophisticated tool like Photo Mechanic might be needed. Such a tool can read EXIF data from the source file during copying and use that information into the file name, renaming the destination file.
Hope this helps.0 -
I use A Better Finder Rename to do my renaming of files. Bring all the images from all the cards onto your Mac via Image Capture, drag them into A Better Finder Rename, and then renumber them by the capture time (if using two cameras, be sure they are in synch). All of this is done prior to bringing them into Capture One. 0 -
Thanks Paul. Your response was very helpful. I am learning more each day about Capture One 4. I was disappointed that the thumbnail look so bad for the converted files. If you have any suggestion on how to avoid that, please let me know.

I hope Pro offers a way to batch rename files, I currently use Bridge to do it! 0
