disastrous import bug in C1 7.1.4
This is an ongoing problem for me. When I import files to a session, the files I select are imported along with every file from the session created just prior to the one I'm currently importing to. It's disastrous, as well as incredibly frustrating, because it actually moves the original files from the previous session to the current one: If I delete the erroneously imported files from my current session, they will be removed from the current session and gone from the session they are supposed to be in--just plain gone! And it happens every time I import to a new session.
Is anyone having this problem? I'm shooting with a MacBook Pro and a Canon 5D MKIII.
Thanks.
Keith

If you haven't opened a support case, I would recommend you do so as this is a user to user forum. The P1 guys are going to need some more specifics about your machine. Also a support case should get you fixed and up and running faster. 0 -
"...import to a new session."
This leads me to believe the files are already on the computer and therefore this entire "import" step is unnecessary.
A session does NOT require you to import, the tool is only there if you have files on an external storage device. If the files are already on your computer, simply create a New Session and point the session to the folder of images you want to access.0 -
The files are never already on my computer: It happens every time I import from a memory card or an external hard drive. 0 -
Please update to 7.1.5, and have one more go. 0 -
Actually, Christian, since I started this thread I have upgraded to 7.1.5 but the problem hasn't diminished. Thanks for the suggestion, though. 0 -
Your problem is not clear to me: are you saying when you import images, that other images (that you have NOT chosen to be imported) are imported as well?
Maybe you could use a different way of image ingestion/importing.
As an inspiration, here's how I do it:
I am not using C1 Pro for the import to my computer, as you cannot choose folder names freely - and as you cannot change the folder names later.
So I'm importing using the Canon utility, open the downloaded images in DPP, name the folder so it fits into my naming scheme, rename the images...
...and only then import the images into C1 Pro.
This way I also don't have to use the session mode - a mode which I don't see as an advantage.
Downside: your adjustments are only stored in the catalog you are working with. You cannot get the images with the same adjustments into a second catalog. This is one of the big weaknesses of the C1 Pro catalogs, and hopefully this gap in the workflow will be resolved (as well as the naming and renaming problem of folders).0 -
I have actually run into a variant of this issue with v7.1.5 - right now I simply cannot import anything into C1. Any import fails with:
Description: An error occurred while tring to create the import folder. Unable to import at this time.
File: /Volumes/Photos/Private fotos/2013/2013-12-02 Stine og Ditte
Domain: com.phaseone.captureone
Code: 513
The thing is, the folder exists but it has absolutely nothing to do with my current import and I see no reason why it should be created again. I have tried renaming the existing folder - same problem. I have created a new catalog. Same problem. I have moved my existing files from a network drive to a local drive. Same problem. In essence, C1 is useless for new images for me right now and that is kind of a problem.
I'm opening a case with support, of course, but just so anyone that runs across this thread does not waste too much time pulling their hair out: The problem is real and as far as I can see, you cannot fix it yourself. I think something has been cached internally in the application and is stuck - question is how to fix it.
EDIT:
Just tried a complete reinstall of C1, rebooting the computer between de-install and installation - same problem.
It seems that a deinstallation leaves all the preferences intact - at least C1 still had a history of opened catalogs after the reinstallation so something survived the removal. If anyone knows where C1 stores its preferences I am all ears - I'm pretty sure deleting that folder will do the trick.
EDIT 2:
Followed this procedure to reset C1:
https://captureintegration.com/uninstal ... -4-on-mac/
While this did reset some of the settings, the problem persists - an import still fails and somehow C1 still remembers that it want to use /Volumes/Photos/Private fotos/2013/2013-12-02 Stine og Ditte as import folder.
EDIT 3:
SUCCESS! 😊
I found an updated tutorial for resetting C1 here:
https://captureintegration.com/how-to-c ... 10-7-10-8/
I am not sure but I think that deleting User > Pictures > Capture One Catalog is what made the difference, even though I was importing to another catalog on a completely different drive. At least C1 had finally forgotten any references to previously used folders and paths and acted as it had been installed for the first time when I started it this time.
I will leave this as a reference for others experiencing a similar issue.0
