Thanks for your help.

I don't use catalogs myself, preferring sessions. But I assume from your question that you are talking about using catalogs. There are two ways of using catalogs - with managed or referenced files. Managed files are images that are actually imported into the catalog, so they are always available. Referenced files are not imported but the catalog works from the images that remain where they first were - perhaps on an external drive. However you can still work on images in a referenced catalog, even without being connected to the drive where the images reside. This is because Capture One creates previews that it stores in the catalog. You can work on the images from the previews, including making edits and adjustments. The one thing you can't do is create output from your work (such as a processed JPG or TIFF file). You have to be connected to the files to do that so that Capture One can combine the adjustments you have made to the data in the original raw files to create the output.
Here's an article explaining. (It actually refers to v7, but the principle here is the same.)

There are a few things that do not work with offline images, like LCC and Automask.
It also limits the visibility of noise reduction, sharpening and clarity effects.
But all the 'usual' work can be done on offline images.

Ian, I have some good news. You are incorrect!!! 😁
You can use the Jpeg Quickproof process recipe without the original images accessible.
I learned this little tip on LULA. Honestly, I don't know why P1 doesn't advertise this feature as its very very handy.
I knew it worked in the last version, but wanted to make sure it didn't get broken so I just tried it in V9.
It works!0 -
But presumably not to get a full top-quality output.
