Read only file problem
I have a few dozen shots that were sent to me that are read-only (crossed out pencil on thumbnail) in Capture One. Examining their permissions, I have privileges to read and write. I can edit these in Canon Digital Photo Professional or Apple Photos. In fact, Capture One is the only program that treats them as read-only. I can save the edited versions as JPEGs or TIFFs in the other photo software, but when I import the edited versions back into Capture One, they are still read-only.
If the files are read-only shouldn't that be reflected in their permissions? If the files are in an incompatible format, wouldn't converting them to TIFF or saving an edited JPEG in another application make them editable? Why would they be editable in something like Photos, but not Capture One?
Is there a way to convert a read-only JPEG to editable form in Capture One if it is otherwise editable in other applications?

Are they grey scale?
Are they quite small or very large? (see the release notes)
Are they a jpg variant file type?0 -
Theses are all jpegs and the files are small because they were reduced in size to be practical when emailed over 10 years ago. Most are under 100KB. This may be the issue, but I can't find anything in the Capture One users guide about the minimum size that can be edited. 0 -
From the release notes.
File size limitations:
Smallest supported file for viewing: minimum side of 16px
Smallest supported file for editing: minimum side of 512px.
Largest supported file: Width x Height must be smaller than 40000 x 20000 pixels or sum
thereof.

Do you have "Enable JPEG Editing" enabled in Preferences > Image? 0 -
Yes, I JPEG editing is enabled, and the thousands of other jpegs can be edited. My issue appears to be a small file size limitation. I did not notice the affected files I received were compressed below the limit Capture One will allow for editing. 0 -
Maybe you could resample them using an other software (Photoshop, Apple Photos,...) in case you really want to edit them with Capture One ? 0 -
Mostly this was a curiosity, more than a practical problem. I did not initially notice that they were uneditable due to their small size. Resizing really small images would make them editable, but it would be better to get the uncompressed originals if I want to edit them. 0 -
