How do I stop Capture One loading when I insert CF/SD card?
Title says it all really,
Every time I insert a SD/CF card into my computer/card reader capture one opens up, then takes it's time to load the previous catalogue I had open. I don't import using capture one, I import using Image Capture, and don't want to import using Capture one or media pro.
I know I can set the card to open with image capture, but this only works if I erase the images.
I reformat the cards every time in the camera before going on a shoot, just so I have a back up on the cards for as long as possible (as well as my laptop/RAID/cloud backup) and for some reason which I can't fathom the default program to import from a camera has changed to Capture One.
Any ideas how I can stop C1 opening?

Thanks Grant.
The problem is that I set it up with Image capture and it's fine until I format the card, then CO will open again.
It wouldn't be so bad if I could tell CO not to open a catalog on opening, because lets face it, I might not want to open the previous catalogue.
Besides it never used to happen.0 -

It sounds like you have some other things going in there.
I'm not a Mac user so I'll have to leave others to comment. I'm surprised that formatting the card makes a difference.
On windows I get the option to choose what to do when a card is inserted - including just closing the pop-up window. I don't find this an inconvenience so it doesn't bother me.
As for the previously used catalogue you should be able to start C1 with no catalogue (or session) loaded by holding down a key (Alt on a Mac?) as you start the application.
Using Windows this is supposed to be the Alt key but I have never managed to get that to work on my setup. That rarely bothers me with a session. (I don't use catalogues). I just open a new session or a different previous session and then close the window for the one I don't want to work.

I just went into Capture One preferences and unclicked import images when card is inserted (or something like that it is called) 0 -
In C1 > Preferences "⌘," - General (tap) - Importing, un check that box. You should have a problem from then on. 0 -

A freudian slip may be? :0)...But even with it unchecked CO still seems hell bent on opening up :0(0 -
No, the issue is the preference in the Image Capture program.
You need to understand the difference between what the Image Capture program and CO8's prefs do.
- Image Capture starts another program (or not).
- the CO8 import preference setting only works when CO8 is running and determines whether the import dialog starts when a card is inserted in the camera. It does not start the program.
Formatting the card means that it is a new card. Hence you have to set Image Capture again not to open any application when connected. Try to format in the camera to prevent this.0 -

I had wondered about that originally, but he says that he formats the card in the camera.

That bugs me too, and might depend on the camera. I do the same every day, but have never this issue (Canon DSLR and a CF card). With a more thorough formatting, a new disk identifier may be written on it and regarded as a new disk in OS X (at least that is my thesis on the matter).0
