It seems you must hold down the shift key foe "any" batch type of process. Just require an "extra hand". 😄

Just hold the shift key when you click on 'process'. It's only one key press more than before - no big deal really.

Not a big deal, but begs the question: why? Can someone explain why we now have to hold down the shift key when that wasn't needed in 3.7? Does this somehow supercharge the processing, or did the Phase One engineers add that step just because they could? What's the reason for it?

    Yes, I can 😂 . I am serious.

I have to work out the new workflow with CO4 myself, but to cut it short, in CO4 I am allowed and tend to work with more images selected (by rating for example) at the same time or multiple variants of one images. I compare them in Show All mode (in Mac version: Multi View mode which I like more) in the viewer and adjust at will between some or all of the selection.

This is where CO4 differs from CO3.x. In CO3 you selected for one reasons of applying a single action (copy adjustment, queue to process) to all selected. In CO4 I select multiple images for comparison or copied variants of a single image. This introduced the need to distinguish to apply an action to one or all selected. In CO4 terms: the primary variant or selected variants.
(You can find these terms when you at the Quick or Process tab go to Process Summary section and click on the small triangle in the title bar to open the context menu).

I just try to explain. With something new like software or a VCR, I first try to get the concept and see if it works for me.

    Hope this helps.

So are you saying that the addition of variants and/or Multi View is the culprit for the added steps in processing? On a side note, is that also the reason that copying and applying adjustments is now more convoluted in 4.0 then it was in 3.7 (it was so easy in 3.7)? If so, I sure wish Phase One would make it possible to set preferences or something so that you could bypass all of this. In other words, some of us I'm sure would gladly sacrifice variants and Multi-View in order to get back simplicity and a quick workflow (I'm speaking primarily of copying and applying adjustments here).

Yes, that is correct. Approximately at the same moment I posted my note, Ulf Liljegren from Phase One support posted the same, but more briefly in the CO4 Mac forum:

    Yes again.

The idea crossed my mind as well. As users we can do a feature request of course. The disadvantage with multiple preferences settings in general and those that affect the concept of a program in particular is that both users and support staff can more easily get confused.

One other point in my explanation was that I believe that with respect to the opinions expressed here, it seems to me that users forget that it takes some time to get used to a program, as we did for CO v1 and v3 in the past (but have forgotten). Even more I believe we are more open to learn a whole new program despite its larger effort (we now it is new) that re-learn an upgrade (referring to the old days). Food for thought on the first day of the year, huh? 😂
All the best to you all.
