How to have two catalogs open simultaneously?

Newbie question: How can I have two catalogs open simultaneously?

Each time I open a second catalog from either File - Open... or by selecting it in the library tool the currently opened 1st catalog gets closed and the 2nd one opens. I would like to have both open at the same time and vaguely remember seeing that possible in a webinar. The two catalogs do not have the same name 😉

Using a Mac and C1 8 Pro. I tried every imaginable key combination but to no success.

Thanks for clarifying and getting a newbie on track.

  Look to:
  
  Edit/Preferences, tab General, section "Catalog and Session", checkbox "Open New Catalog or Session in New Window"
