Is it possible to simplify live view/tethered shooting
Hi there, I like live view during tethering, but find the method I'm using really cumbersome and was wondering if this was the only realistic way of doing things... I dream of a world where live view paused and resumed automatically while I used the camera's shutter button, so that I didn't need to go to the computer and use awkward mouse movements every time I needed to take a picture.
My method is as follows: use live view to make camera adjustments. Pause live view with mouse using the little icon. Navigate to the other C1 window. Use little camera capture icon or keyboard shortcut to take photo. Navigate back to Live View window. Press little icon to resume live view. Repeat.
This seems like a crazy set of movements when it's so obvious that if I'm looking at the live view window and I press the camera's shutter button (or at the very least the keyboard shortcut for capturing an image), I'll also want to pause live view/capture image/look at the results in the other window, and then it would be really amazing if I could half press or press live view on my camera to then resume C1's live view and have the live view window appear on top.
Any suggestions on how to improve this process or clarification that this is the only way of doing things would be appreciated. I started wondering that maybe a MIDI controller would work?

What camera are you shooting with? 0 -
Ah yes, should have said.. Canon 6D. Hints on other non medium format cameras would be useful though because I'm a photographer's assistant as well. 0 -
I don't have the 6D, but doesn't it resume LV after you take a picture automatically (non tethered)
So the reason you have to pause live view to take a picture is due to C1Pro 9 ?0 -
Sorry for the long delay, I didn't get an email notification to say you'd replied..
I just managed to fix the issue! I wasn't as clear as I could have been in the original message.
I could *take* photos during C1's live view mode, but the flash wasn't firing, and that was the problem. I managed to read between the lines of Google to work this out (bear with me as it's tricky to describe without waffling):
C1 and the camera's own live view are very much interconnected, which I hadn't fully taken on board.
With Canon cameras, during live view, there are multiple shooting modes including ''silent mode 1'' and ''silent mode 2''. They basically do their own form of mirror lockup so it's good for camera stability, so I keep silent mode on for live view (not that I ever really use live view).
''Silent mode'', for some reason, disables the use of the hotshoe!! So that's why the flash wasn't firing. I turned off ''silent mode'' and things are working great.
My problem now is that because I can't use live view with silent mode, I'm more likely to get camera shake, and the reason I'm doing this all tethered/live view is to frame up 5xmacro shots, which are insanely sensitive to camera movement. But that's going to be another story!!0 -
