Has it worked before in this configuration (H10 and that computer)? What's the amount of RAM (4 GB perhaps?). Have you looked into this:

Thanks for the response.
I did as you suggested but there is no change. I received the following error this time.
Unspecified error.

This is the first time I am trying this setup. On plugging in the status lights on the H10 are working but no tone as per the Mac does. I wonder about the Belkin F5U526 APL?
I tried last night back on my Macbook Pro, 2 to 3 yrs old, and had no issues, but it is a proven system. On retrying with a Canon XT on the Vista system it all worked. The Vista system is new and yes it does have 4 gig of RAM. All my other software functions operates fine.0 -
Hmm, multiple variables. Can you try without the Belkin to rule out (or not) as a cause? Do you have separate power on the Belkin? Have you ran the MacBook Pro / H10 setup with the Belkin as well?
The Canon XT is a USB connected camera, so that is a different story. And I believe that it was Win7 (not Vista) who had a > 4 GB RAM issue with firewire so we can skip that to.
Zoom in on the Belkin.0 -
I agree that the Belkin may be the issue. I will look into it. I notices that the power available to the H10 from the Belkin is below 11 volts vs over 12 volts on the Macbook without the Belkin in the path. I will look at increasing the voltage available and after that find a way to test the hub using another device. I know the included cable that was supplied by Belkin is good as it is the cable I used to connect to the Macbook. 0 -
Please make sure you are using one of the following Devices to facilitate the Firewire Connection;

Thanks Drew for that link.
I will be checking on available pcmcia cards today. Thus bypassing the iLink and Belkin hub, hoping that by the end of day that I will be up and running on my Vista machine.0 -
I have a working system again. With my Toshiba laptop running Vista Business Edition the onboard iLink would not work. Therefore I purchased a Startech 2 Port Firewire Expresscard # EC13942 and it all works. Thanks for the help. 0
