What is Hardware acceleration with OpenCL good for?
Hi,
After the upgrade to C10, I experienced painful export speed. 30 files 20 minutes.. I was thinking either my comp. is to slow or the new version of C1 is...
If I wouldn't come across OpenCL term and method of disabling it, I'd definitely go trying to install v9 again or do other silly stuff.
All the speed issues from my experiences and were related to OpenCL (graphic card memory if I understand correctly)...Whatever that is, it helps maybe with previews but for sure disable it for 'processing'. My CPU worked with 20% with OpenCL set on 'auto' mode while exporting files in C1, only 20%! And therefore it took a century.
After I disabled 'OpenCL' for processing, CPU kicks in with 100% and 30 files are processed in 2mins.
I left Display option on 'Auto', although I have no idea if that is good or not.
Does anyone know exactly when OpenCL is good and when not? It's certainly not good for processing files.

OpenCL should be good for most output processing activities and many but not all editing activities (and perhaps a little RAW file dependent in some cases.)
If you have serious problems with OpenCL processing for output (as it seem you do) then one good step to try is to look for and updated driver for your GPU card - OpenCL makes use of a compatible Graphics Processing card, assuming it has enough processing power to make it worth using instead of the CPU.
Sometimes the drivers provided by, for example, Windows updates (or lack of them) may mean that the GPU/WIndows/Applications fail to work well together. That may mean the GPU driver needs updating OR that it has been updated and the results are not as expected.
So check for the latest drivers. If you don't have them, try them. If you DO have them, try the one before!
Remember to set the preference back to Auto and then restart C1 after you have installed a different driver.
If it's not that ... I would suggest opening a Support Case with Phase while you wait for any other user feedback from the forum.
HTH.

Hi. I was having issues similar to the ones you have stated. Low performance on exports... But performance came back again when installing latest drivers for the gpu.(After uninstalling the previous Amd drivers.)On nikon nef 36 mpx files export takes more or less 1s per image. 0
