Triangle of Death, or just Hiding?

At irregular intervals, image files in the browser are replaced by a light grey triangle with an exclamation point in the middle, all on a darker grey ground; and the same icon appears in the viewer. Has anyone seen this, and if so, what is it telling me and where are the images it's obscuring? I am running a 2012 MacBook Pro with OS 10.7.5 and C1 Pro 7.1 2. The images are imported from a Nikon D800E. Thanks, Grank

    This means the files are unreadable.
    This can occur if the files are on an external source that has conflicts with consistent communication.
    This can occur under other situations as well, depending on your workflow.

    If you restart the software and the files are present and without error then the issue is likely due to the location of the data as appose to the data itself.
