An Opportunity for Phase One

I can't agree with this post more, and I have a thread open that shows Media Pro behaving at it's worst (which is thus far totally unresolved).

But for what it's worth, I'm one of the guys Jim's referring to, precisely. I think Adobe just made the most aggressive, anti-consumer, disloyal moves ever. I don't really care who thinks the cloud is awesome or who agree with me; I despise the fact that they removed my ability to CHOOSE how I wanted to play this.

As such, I've made all the plugins I care about, available as standalone and I bought Media Pro specifically to wrap up the system with Capture One so I can operate fully without Adobe for my work.

BUT, Phase One has built a freaking lemon with Media Pro so far and someone there should be downright embarrassed over how it's performing in the field. Phase One has a massive opportunity here and it WILL get frittered away if they allow Media Pro to remain this flawed for any amount of time. Guys like me are running away from Adobe as fast as we can. They're behaving as arbitrary as Google does.

My original choice to go with CO was because my studio is saving monthly toward a move into medium format. In theory, I had figured we would invest in a Phase system as opposed to Hasselblad because unlike Phocus, CO would allow me to shoot tethered to both my Phase and Nikon systems.

But all this thinking is out the window right now because Media Pro is working so poorly I have to rely fully on manually organizing my images (which means I may as well give the Hassy's/Phocus a closer look).

I'm really shocked that a company selling products at this level had the audacity to charge $200 for a cataloging system THIS messed up; and Adobe just handed you the keys to a huge market if you bothered to make it work correctly.

There is also an additional opportunity for MediaPro (MP) due to the sudden death of Idimager (ID) in summer 2012. I left MP due to instability and weak CaptureOne (C1) synchronizaton and lack of XMP-support with read-only files. I was very very happy with ID, but after its death I moved to IMatch (IM), which is even better than ID ever was and highly stable. Never had any IM crash! And the new IM v5 is in beta testing and very really very promising. I am using in parallel JPhotoTagger (JPT) which is a very powerful and free DAM tool for all kind of media files. JPT is for me a perfect replacement for MP, since I do not use JPT for bulk camera image management.

Yes MP has an opportunity, but has to do a lot of homework and listen to all existing and potential new customers. Theoretically MP could do the job of IM+JPT, but for this the stability, the workflow with C1 and couple of features including XMP-sidecar support have to be embedded or to be improved dramatically.

    Regards, Joseph
