The first place to start is ensuring you have a fair comparison.
Be sure the images are being viewed at 100% in both softwares so you are not comparing one software's scaled interpretation of 100% against another. There is no rule in software as to what constitutes 33%, 50% or 66% scale so one softwares scale may be different from another and pixel molestation could run rampant.

The other possibility is that you are turning OFF sharpening when processing the image. So you can see the sharpening in Capture One but the processed image has removed it.

I compared a 100% view because I know that other views cannot be compared.

I now had a look at my export settings and the checkbox for sharpening was not turned off.

Here you can see two printscreens from a 100% view from CO7.02 and Photoshop CS5:
The picture looks awful in PS.

Can you supply the file through a support case?

    I created a support case.

Looks like you got a response in 12 minutes asking for a RAW so we could recreate the issue 😉

What were the results of the investigation/support case? did the issue ever get resolved?`

I see the same issue with current C1 Pro (7.1.3) the Mac version, not the Windows version. In general the output is unsharp/slightly washed out, regardless if I am generating full size jpg's. scaled down jpgs or web contact sheets (regardless of the quality setting in the web contact sheet)

My wife is less demanding on the output and nowhere near as much of a pixel-peeper as I am, but she has commented on several occasions that the output is inferior to what we see when working with the pictures in C1.

So any updates, tips & tricks will be most welcome.

    Best regards,
    Casper

    Hi Casper,

I suggest you post in the Mac forum. If or when you do, please provide details about your workflow like selected profiles and program you are viewing the output with.

... and a support case with examples would help expedite an answer for you too 😉

    Hi Drew,

I will raise a support case as soon as possible, unfortunately it looks like it won't be until sometime next week...

Noting that the original post was submitted over half a year ago, I was hoping that some advice was already available.
I understand that you need to track issues in a customer support tool, but I think that you should strive to update threads here in the forum with solutions and recommendations as well. That would reduce frustration and workload for your customers and the support team.

    Best regards,
    Casper

    Hi Paul,

Yes, I should have posted in the Mac area of the forum. Just thought it would be worth a shot to ask for the solution to this issue, even though it was posted in the Windows section - I assume that a significant part of the code in the "image core"/engine is platform independent.

As I wrote to Drew I will raise a support case when I have the time to do it, and I will be sure to include SW versions, workflow, examples, camera brand and model, lens etc.

The flow is actually quite simple though:
    * have fun with the camera (Canon 5D3)
    * Copy photos from the CF card to the file system using the native "finder"
    * Import some photos into an existing catalogue (with the images remain at the current location in the file system)
    * Edit a photo
    * In the output panel select a recipe for jpg's
    * Process the image
    * Look at the output at 100% view in the native OSX image viewer/ or put the image on a blog and view it from a browser / or upload it to facebook (whatever) and view it with a browser.
    * Scratch the back of my head wondering why it is less sharp than in C1 / wonder if I accidentally disabled sharpening in the output pane...

BTW: judging by the amount of views this thread has achieved, I think that I am not the only one scratching the back of the head wondering if everything is right.
It does not have thousands of views, but 300 views indicates a certain level of interest - so updating the thread with the solution/advice would in my humble opinion be very nice of Phase One.

    Best regards,
    Casper

Yes, you're not the only one who's noticed this. Because I'm the optimist that I am, I showed a couple of files that appeared far sharper in Capture 1 than in Photoshop to a couple of my pickiest clients - all agreed (to my absolute delight of course) that C1 got it right.

Afterwards, I poked around a bit and found out that there are people out there that choose C1 for the improved sharpness alone.

    You never know...

Please make sure you have not ticked "Disable sharpening" in Process Tool Tab -> Process Recipe -> Adjustments
