Overlay Utility - Way to preserve transparency?

Hi all,
Anyone know if there is a way to preserve transparency when using the Overlay feature? I would like the text and surroundings to be solid but retain transparency in the image area. Is this possible, i tried using a layered tiff but once I brought it in to Capture one the transparency layer is viewed as white. Any way to keep that area transparent? How about in Capture One 4?

    Use an image format that actively supports transparency such as png or eps.
