More Suggestions for C1
Hello Everyone,
First time poster. Bear with me.
My company currently has 3 p-series backs and will soon have 4. Its not inconcievable that we'll have 5 in the next three months.
As we are all aware, C1 is the only software which deals with the files generated by these backs.
Our work is in fashion catalogue production. We shoot between 16 and 30 shots per day, each filling at least one 1gb flash card. All this on location - often into a powerbook.
As you can imagine - we generate a lot of data.
due to the nature of the shoots, we need to output jpegs of every single frame and keep track of every shot (30-50 frames) with metadata keywords.
I feel C1/p25 is lacking in a number of areas.
1. Metadata
the iptc editor should be an 8th tool in the bar with the organise and colour balance tools. c1 should be able to view metadata which has been added outside c1.
2. Thumbnail Jpegs
The art directors we deal with need to take away low res versions of EVERY frame taken during our shoots. Setting all the files to export quickproof jpegs whilst still capturing makes c1 a little unstable (all versions since 3.5) Apparently C1 generates quickproof jpegs from the raw files themselves. This seems like overkill - Wouldnt it be great to have an option to create jpegs from the 7mb preview files? That way c1 could whip through them in no time and the art director can leave with all the jpegs at the end of the day.
Of course, a raw+jpeg option whilst shooting would be even better.
Currently, I'm looking into applescript solutions for the second issue.
At the moment I have to employ a person whose job it is to set jpeg output late into the evening after shoots for the art director to get first thing on the next day.
I emailed the tech guys at phase about how I might access the 7mb .preview files but I doubt I'll hear back.
Another solution would be to make the embedded tif preview file something more useful - like 600px high.
Also, if Iview could read IIQ raw files it would help a great deal.
Anyway. Im struggling with simple solutions for high volume work and have to settle for labour intensive ones.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks

I second Your suggestions but I think it would be very good if it was possible to shoot directly to DNG with P1 backs. That way we could use whatever workflow we want, even Photoshop since it supports DNG. 0 -
Hello
1. Good suggestion, we would be thankful if you use the provide feedback function for this and it will be added directly as a feature request in our software tracking system.
2. The quickproof is a very fast way of creating thumbnail images, the .previews files can not be used for several resons which I will not go in to but you can script your for the application to automatically generate previews as soon as a new capture arrives in the computer if you so want.
