What I noticed so far:
-polish language (great for me ๐)
-larger curve area and you can change darks and lights points (this is really great, in my understanding you do not have to use the tool levels to "clip" whites and darks - you can do it all in curves !!!)
-you can change white balance in local adjustments!!!! (this is cool)
-you can modify HDR in local adjustments (great),
-better HDR??? (i'm not sure)
In my opinion it's worth every penny ๐0 -

Great news - it's available on subscription..!

Only subscription? ๐ 0 -
Big features for me: Film grain and clone/heal. It's also supposed to be faster, though I haven't noticed any significant leaps yet. 0 -

Nope... Just another option.0 -

No, as Drew says (and as it says in the link), it's just an option - the "traditional" route to ownership still exists too.
Depending on the lifespan of 8 though, the subscription model looks pretty good: รขโยฌ8/รยฃ6.40/$10.35 a month.0 -
I can say it is faster for me.
Other times, I have had software advertised as faster and felt like there was no real improvement... v8 has a very noticeable improvement for me both in render time and export. In v7, there was a lag when I switched between one variant and the other to review... very hard to compare images that way. With v8, there is no lag at all.
I have an older machine
AMD Phenom II X4 965
16 GB RAM
nVidia GTS 450
The handling of highlights is improved again.
In v7, highlights transitions were improved. Sunsets looked better. But the Highlight DR tool in version 7 affected midtones so I did not use much of the tool or overall image brightness was impacted. Version 8 highlight tool does not affect midtones. If it does, it is very little... The highlight tool can be used more aggressively in v8 and that is welcome. Much easier to work with high contrast images and images of things with shiny surfaces.
Those are the two things that are most improved and welcome for me.
Another welcome thing is the conversion from v7 to v8
It may have been my camera and image files, but when I upgraded a v6 image to v7, the image seemed really harsh and I had to go back and do a good bit of work. I haven't upgraded a file from v7 to v8 and felt like extra work was needed. Either little change or the change made (primarily due to different HDR tool effects) was good.
There are other things added.
As mentioned, more tools can be used on adjustment layers and these include HDR Tools, Noise Reduction, and White Balance. The Healing tool has worked well but I only use that incidentally.
I am not sure of any changes to catalogs.
I don't use them..0 -
Start with the release notes for a full list of all new features. Next, try the 60-day trial to get the feel (yes, it feels different). 0 -
All sounds very promising - I'm especially pleased to hear that both the NR and HDR tools are even better (they're the two key features in in any converter, for me) and that highlight recovery can be "brushed on".
The speed improvement is welcome too...
One question though: am I right to believe that - except for Sony camera users - there's no 8 Express?0 -

Hi Keith,
Yes, there is no 'regular' CO Express 8, but only one that is limited to Sony raw files.
For Express users there is currently a promo upgrade to Pro.0 -
So we're going to go through all the same nonsense that we needed to go through over 7 Express.
Oh, wonderful...0 -

Where would those be? I've looked all over..
or are you referring to their 'new features' web page as release notes?
I want to see if anything was done with this mess of a key-wording system before even bothering to look at v8.0 -
Thank you to all.
The most important is the stability issue. 2 hours today, no crash. We shall see.

To me the general color presentation seems to be improved but as I'm not able to open CO7 I'm not able to compare.
I have been waiting for the clone and healing. For these features I have been forced to use another program, but if the features are working well in CO8 I can now stick to one program.
I been working a Little with the heal and clone features in CO8, but it is difficult for me to se the difference, but at least they seem to Work as needed. Maybe there is a difference in how heavy the effect is.
I have been looking for the Keyword field on top of the Metadata column, but it seems like the keyword field is not present on my screen. I have upgraded the engine for the image in the viewer. I intent to ask the support.
As far as I can see the upgrade Price for Express to CO8 is the same as Pro to CO8? If the case it seems to be a fair offer to the Express users.
