Why Shift Key for Multi Processing?

I don't understand why the Shift Key and Process Key are required for processing multiple images. I would think just highlighting the images and using process key the would be enough as is the case with other processing software.

Yes, it is enough to hit the process button for a selection of images when you have Edit All Selected Variants set to ON.

Only in case you have set the switch mentioned to OFF, you can temporarily and quickly overrule that with the Shift key.
