Using files from two camera bodies in the same folder

Hi everyone
Since I had some repair to have to be done by Canon on my 1Ds Mk3 (joystick broken) I bought a 5D Mk 2 to achieve some current assignements.
Now that the 1 Ds Mk3 is back, I have decided to keep the 5D Mk 2 as a back-up camera.
But I also use it to shoot with a 24-70 mm therefore I can keep the 70-200 attached to the Mk 3…
So I can shoot 2 bodies without having to change the lens when needed.
Works very fine!

Now in C1 I would like to have all files in the same folder. Easy.
But I would like to see them in chronological order of shooting. Sorting by date do not work in that case…

Any idea/suggestions?

    Please explain why sort by date doesn't work for you...it does for us...both camera types set to the same time is all that matters. It's very easy to VIEW by name to adjust by types...then switch to VIEW by date for chronological order.

    Of course you need to synchronize the clocks on both to work. If you need to shift times after shooting you could try: Exiftool at http://u88.n24.queensu.ca/exiftool/foru ... d,7.0.html.

    After your post I checked both bodies and they have very limited time shift (a few seconds).
    Then came back to C1 and after having clicked 3 times on the sort by "date" menu, it works fine!

    BTW I use C1 6.3.1 on Snow Leo

    Had also a check on your link to exiftool, it is a .exe file (for Windows ?)

    Thank you for the link to get Mac exiftool.
    I have downloaded.
    When I start the Terminal app and type exiftool and then return it seems I can do something…

    But I'm absolutely zero with Terminal command…
    What should I do to be able to shift time of a eerie of files by minus 3 minutes?

    I'm on Windows so it may not be the same. I haven't done it in awhile as I try to set the camera times before the shoot (having learned my lesson). To shift time on my system I would select the files, then from the "Modify" menu choose "Exif: DateTime shift..." then after making adjustments I use the "Various" menu and select the "File:Date modified=Exif: DateTime...". The first operation sets the Exif data to the new time. Be sure to practice on test files first to see how the shift works. The second command sets the modified date that Capture One looks at when sorting by date/time. There's probably another tool available for just shifting modified date/times, but I initially was interested in the Exif settings when I found this tool.

    I'm afraid it doesn't help me much, the Terminal app command is quite specific…
    I tried many utility app found on the web, to change the date or even shift a list of file, it seems to be effective when one reads "info" in the finder, but it does not do the trick for C1 which reads the "real" original date. Stubborn C1!

    For the guys having the use of the Terminal app command, this is what I get in the Terminal window and don't know what to type to shift the time of a set of (duplicated!) files:

    DESCRIPTION
    A command-line interface to Image::ExifTool, used for reading and
    writing meta information in image, audio and video files. FILE is one
    or more source file names, directory names, or "-" for the standard
    input. When reading, information from source files is output in
    readable form to the console (or written to output text files with -w).

    To write, copy or delete information, tag values are assigned using the
    -TAG=[VALUE] syntax, or with the -tagsFromFile or -geotag options. By
    default the original files are preserved with "_original" appended to
    their names -- be sure to verify that the new files are OK before
    erasing the originals. Once in write mode, exiftool will ignore any
    read-specific options.

    Note: If FILE is a directory name then only supported file types in
    the directory are processed (in write mode only writable types are
    processed). However, files may be specified by name, or the -ext
    option may be used to force processing of files with any extension.

    supported by ExifTool (r = read, w = write, c = create):

    Hi Nicolas,
    I have always had the same problem with C1 Pro, I shoot with a few different cameras and like you I sort by date.

    The only way I can to get it to work is to copy the files from all cameras into my chosen folder, start up C1 and let let it do iit's thing, when it's finished not all of the files will be sorted by date but, if I shut down and restart C1 it then picks up the rest of the files and everything is sorted by date.

    Stupid but it works every time 😊

    thanks for your input.
    Strangely (with 6.3.1/Snow Leo at least) it works correctly…
    Following Coach2 I have now synchronised both camera bodies.
    However for some previous shooting there is a 3 minutes difference between both cameras and that makes a lot of mess when sorting by date, because the shots aren't chronological at all!
    This is why I would like to be able to change the date of these files (from only one of the 2 cameras)…

    Ugh! The command line options look intimidating. I'm glad I found a GUI interface or I may not have bothered.

    Maybe there are other options. How many files do you have that need time shifted?

    But they are some Mac gurus out there… I whish they read this thread 😉

    I have 3 different sessions with a bout a hundred each to have to be shifted.
    But if I can't, I won't die for that!

    Just a thought, though I can't give specifics for Macs:

    For 300 photos it may be easy to manually add a sequence number at the beginning of the files (0001, 0002, 0003....) which would then cause C1 to sort them by the new names which are in the order that you want.

    I have a third party viewer which allows manual sorting (sorry, couldn't find a Mac version). I then drag the ordered list into another freeware program that allows me to rename them with sequence numbers. For my normal file naming this works great as I always use a sequence (i.e., YYMMDD-#### Event Name_CR2#### which is year month day followed by sequence event and finally camera file number, actually instead of "CR2" I have it identify which camera was used).

    Too bad Capture One doesn't allow custom sorting where you can drag thumbnails to reorganize them.
