how much ram is enough to run c1 pro 3.6 ?

i have recently come across a problem while operating for a studio in regards to ram and speed.

the photographer is shooting fairly heavily, in fact probably one of the heaviest shooters i have come across 'in terms of speed' and i am finding the machine to time out. or take a few secounds to recycle and then it is fine - this is all well and good, but as the photographer is a ''fashion photographer' and he is finding it very frustrating as he expects the camera to be able to shoot every 1.5 sec as the broucher states. which when you think about it, it should be able to achieve this.

i have been using macs for the past 7 years so am fairly o fay with there goings on in regards to performance and load. we have just loaded up the machine with another gig of ram taking it up to 3 gig from 2 gig. i have noticed a increase in performance but still find the ocassional slip and upon further inspection of memory usage still find it 'paging out'.

my hunch is that obviously the more ram the better the performance ie. lets just wack in 8 gig and see how it goes - finace is not to happy with my logic, understandably.

so and i appologies for my long windedness- my question is - how much ram is it going to take to make this machine sing. and secoundly is any one out there running a g5 full spec machine and running c1 pro with a p25 or h25, and how is it going..

FYI we are using c1 pro v3.6 with the h25 phase one and also p25 a g5 dual 2.5 ghz machine running a mirror raid on 180gb drives. 2 lacie 19 inch monitiors on the ati 64mb card. 2 gig and just tryed 3 gig of ram.
if any one could shed some light on this it would be mcuh appreciated

I suspect that your problem has little to do with the amount of RAM in your computer. I've shot a Canon 1Ds tethered into several different computers and haven't noticed any difference in speed between them. I think the delay has more to do with the time it takes the camera to initially process the file and then transfer it over the firewire cable. I also shoot fashion and find the slowness annoying. Unfortunately, I think we'll have to wait for Phase One to implement the improvements as technology advances. Hopefully you'll get some more opinions, but I don't believe that more RAM is going to help you out. Good luck.

hi wf.
thanks for the post. i agree with what you are saying. that it is to much to ask of the machine and fw cable and db to pull the files down any quicker at the moment.

i did however find that with an increase in the ram it did remove bottle necks that were happening when shooting repeatedly- there was a very noticible increase in performance from 2 gig to 3 gig of ram. and a marginal increase from 3 to 5 gig.
