Question about filters

Sounds like you're doing things right.

Yes, it would be nice if C1 had a way to apply a given "global" filter to all collections, but there isn't one.

You can, though, save filter presets and then easily apply whichever you want wherever you want. This is what I've done.

I can understand why the current approach is good, though. There are a lot of filters that would only apply to certain collections, so it makes sense to have the user apply filters appropriately.

For example, would you want the same filter criteria applied to "Joe/Marilyn Wedding", "Karen/William Anniversary", and "Africa 2019 Trip"? Or would it make more sense to have filter presets saved, something like "happy couple", "parents",and "wildlife"? (assuming you'd added appropriate metadata, of course)

You might submit a feature request to Support.

I was looking at a folder and created a filter preset. When I change folders I have to re-enable the filter. If I go back to the original folder the filter is still enabled. It seems that enabled filters are folder specific. The end result is that I have to remember to turn off filters when I switch folders.

My question is if there is a better way to do this. It seems to me that filters should either always be enabled or not. If you forget to disable a filter then there is really nothing obvious to point out that I am looking at a filtered folder.

    Thanks.

The indicators are there, you have to know were to look.

In a browser only view, the title of the browser includes (filtered) if there is a filter applied. In addition, at the right hand side of the search field the three dots ⋯ are coloured deep orange[/color:in74jdae]

If both Viewer and Brwoser are enabled, and the theree is insufficent space forr a Browser Title (e.g. the browser is along the right hand edge), the count of images is in deep orange[/color:in74jdae]

Have you tried Smart Albums? A Smart Album is a virtual album for your images that’s based certain search criteria with a set of conditional rules.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks everyone, I do see the tell tale signs that a filter is in place. I think the way the filter system works where it is folder specific is and remains enabled even after you leave the folder is not what I would expect but that is me. I may suggest to CO that when a filter is active, rather than orange dots that the background color of the search bar be orange so it is more noticeable. Also, I will probably recommend a global clear filters option too.
