Create custom metadata field?

No, not really, but not because of Capture One. Metadata fields for images follow a standard format so that when you move from program to program, the fields will all be the same.

You could in theory modify the xmp sidecar file to add fields, but when you bring that image into another program (Bridge or Photoshop for example) that program would either ignore the additional field completely, or (if the programmers were lazy) flip out that the formatting of the sidecar file is incorrect and possibly crash.

The best thing for you to do if you'd like to store notes, is just pick one of the existing ITPC fields and commit to using it as a place for storing your notes. The "Instructions" field perhaps?

    Thanks, brianmerwin.

The reason I asked is that Apple Aperture allows this. The info I've stored in these custom fields was never intended for transfer to other programs or to be embedded within the files on export. Just my own personal notes which where handy to have connected to specific images.

Thanks for the tip on using the "Instructions" field.

Otherwise, I am extremely pleased with C1 after leaving Aperture nine months ago. But I sure do miss my L*a*b* color readout!
