Another Renaming issue...

    Brion,

I think I may have an idea of what is going on and please correct me if I am wrong. I remember experiencing a very similar situation in my days as a digital tech. When you rename an image Capture One is going to re-organize the files in the thumbnail window based on your settings (usually reorganizing by name). There is a slight delay in the time that the files reorder so what happens is that you can select an image while this is occurring the selection will jump to the new image in its place. The solution to this is to wait an few extra seconds between renaming.

If it will work within your workflow I would personally recommend changing the capture name when you start each shot, that way your images already carry the correct naming convention and they can be easily archived.

    Hi Jon,

    Thanks for your swift reply.

I know of the circumstances that you are referring to but unfortunately, I don't think that what you suggest could be the issue. We are not usually renaming files in that quick a succession.

This issue is quirkier than that. Everything will be in proper order, all images properly organized (usually by name, as you guessed). Nothing will be processing or resorting. I will highlight my next images title, paste in the new name and then things get weird. The new name will show up on a different image.

It really is inexplicable. I've been doing this a long time and I've never seen anything like it. I only wish it was not so intermittent and I could force it to be repeatable.

Have you tried pasting from other apps or keying in the new name to see if it still happens? Maybe some weird formating from Excel. Try changing to sort by shot date when renaming.
