Tethering issues
Hello all
I'm having quite a few tethering issues with different computers and cameras which have been going on for a while (6.4.2 was the last version that worked correctly for me) so before I create a support case I wonder if anyone can suggest anything obvious I'm doing wrong.
Basically cameras will tether and shoot fine until they disconnect whether that's because I need to move the camera and so unplug it or because the camera has gone to sleep. Generally they will reconnect OK two or three times then after that I get capture errors and C1 locks up needing to be quit or more often force quit.
I'm mainly using the latest non retina Macbook pro with 10.8.3 (also used 10.8.2) and previously a 4+ year old macbook pro on 10.6.8 with just about all the versions of C1 as they've come along up to the latest 7.1.2. Cameras used are mainly 5dmk2 but also P30 and IQ160. USB and firewire causing problems.
The frustrating thing is the problem doesn't change even using new computers with clean installs or alternate cameras and cables or repeater cables etc. I know there were previously Canon issues but I believe these are now solved and the latest C1 release notes mention fixing tethering issues, only it doesn't seem to work for me. As long as the camera doesn't disconnect it's fine, it's the connection and disconnection and then reconnection where the issues lie.
Is anyone else having the same problem? Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks!

I know you're trying to source information before a support case but I think submitting one with your Logs and System Profile would really go a long way to understand what is occurring with your system.
It sounds like the, eventually, the system does not allow the driver for the camera to relaunch. Perhaps there are other system errors (referencing it not occurring on a new computers) that are contributing to the system failing to reconnect the camera. Maybe something as simply as a USB port being monopolized by other devices.0 -
Hello, do you experience this issue after disconnect with all your cameras or just with the Canon? 0 -
Thanks Drew I will do that next week although the behaviour did continue the same with a new computer and clean install. Certainly be good to get it sorted!
Joao, it's mainly with the Canon but really only a consequence of that's the camera I mainly use. I was using an IQ160 this week tethered via firewire (couldn't make USB 3 connect at all and didn't have time to investigate) and had capture errors when disconnecting and had to quit once when C1 started behaving strangely (not necessarily connected to tethering but seems to follow the pattern for me) but this was prior to the 7.1.2 update0 -
I'm having the same issues. Version after version... I turn off my camera, and the program freezes. I've just submitted a request for support. I've done all of the usual suggested workarounds: disable all but canon, open cl "never", stay on top of updates. The latter is extremely maddening. I keep hearing that the "next version will work fine", I shell out money, and deal with the same issues. I've been loyal to this software for a long time, and even I'm considering jumping ship. 😕 0
