C1 conversion shows 'pattern stamp'
I just found this forum!
The following paragraphs are from repeated comments I made in another forum. I am including all of them to give a better idea of the problem and the sequece of events:
--------------------------------------------
I recently upgraded to C1 3.7 and was doing some conversions when I noticed that the backdground in one of the shots looked a little \"blocky\". It was almost as if there were hundreds upon hundreds of little squares repeated all over the image. These were not pixel-sized squares but more the size of 20 or so pixels per square. So I zoomed in (in PSCS2) to 200% and sure enough there was a pattern of squares that was plainly visible at that level, repeated throughout the entire image. They were like little vetical and horizontal hatch marks that repeated themselves and made a square pattern. At 100% the image looked ok but there was a hint of these patterns; at 200% the patterns are plain as day.
Figuring that this could be something to do with my camera (CANON 1dMKII) , I went back to some RAW
files that were about a year old and converted them. Sure enough the patterns were there. I could not believe I had never noticed this before so I compared the recently converted RAW files to the conversions of those same files I had done a year ago. NO SQUARES on the old images.
So, apparently something had changed in C1.
I have no idea what this could be or what to do about it.
Any ideas?
This is an enlarged closup of a young girl's face. You can clearly see the pattern of hatch marks.

Obviously, an image like this would never be shown to this degree of enlargement (I think 3x) BUT this same pattern is visible at 100%. It is not as clearly visible but you can still see a repeated pattern across the images.
----------------------------------------------------
I have un-installed 3.7 and re-installed 3.6. That has taken care of most of the problem.
The best way I can describe these conversion problems is that if you have ever applied a texture to an image in PS and that texture was not totally seamless, then you get a slightly visible repeated pattern. This kind of pattern was visible, primarily in the \"bokehed out\" portions of my images. I checked to see that all of my conversion settings had not changed, and they had not, I really thought there was something wrong with the camera.
In re-installing 3.6 I first deleted all prior versions of C1. I then installed 3.6 from a prior download. Because I knew exactly what to look for, I was able to see an ever-so-slight repeat of this same thing in 3.6. But I don't think I would have ever noticed it if I had not seen the effect \"in all it's glory\" in 3.7
I have tried other RAW converters and I have a lot of time invested in C1. I cannot get the same results out of other converters, such as RawShooterEssentials, so I really want to stick with C1.

What are your default settings for noise suppression, banding suppression and sharpening with the different revs? Also, what ISO setting? I have a 1Ds and a 1D MII and can run some parallel tests but I don't see this kind of hatching with C1, even at 400%.
I think the defaults changed between revs ... this is what I'd expect with a relatively high ISO shot with a lot of sharpening, maybe? Would be willing to run a couple of tests if you'll provide the four parameters mentioned above.

Looks like really highly compressed JPG to me. 0 -

I caught your original post over at Rob G, and posted a response there. I'll post it here, too, just to make sure the Phase One folks see it.
From Rob Galbraith's site:
Back in February or March, I had the same issues - and a rather involved discussion about on Michael Tapes' RawWorkflow site. Here's a link:

Along with this discussion, I put up some examples on my own site. I'd forgotten about them, but they are still there:
http://www.4incite.com/C1_test/C1_test.html
In my case, I eventually tied the \"blockiness\" to the fact that I was forcing a specific output dimensions within C1. Once I unchecked that box, and let C1 set the output as it wished, the blockiness was gone - and then I did any upsizing needed within Photoshop.0
