setting default sharpening

Setting default sharpening is not working.

I have tried the method suggested in a previous post, but for the life of me I cannot get a different setting to stick!

The save as default setting just does not work.

any suggestions please.

  I've just tried it on my version 4.8.3 and the new setting 'sticks' ok - BUT, it doesn't seem to 'stick' for the folder of images I was browsing when i applied it. i.e. if I browse to another folder that i have not yet browsed (or deleted the settings files for) then they all get applied with the new default setting.
  
  So in short, to apply the new setting to a folder of images already browsed I'd copy and paste the new setting because if you I'd delete the settings files in any folder you have already browsed (the .cos files i believe) you will lose any adjustments you have made.
  
  Any new folder you browse should have the new default settings applied.
  
  Hope this makes sense...

  With the help of the support desk I have solved this problem.
  
  By deleting the preferences file and resetting the program to default state, things now work as expected.
