C1 chrashes when reodering hierachical keywords

Dear C1-User

I reordered hierarchical keywords via drag and drop. After waiting 30 seconds (colored beachball time) a popup window appears (counting up seconds to reorder the keywords). When the progress indicator is at the end (progress seams to finished) C1 craches. After restarting all keywords in the previous order.

I'm working with the latest 27'' iMac (i5, 32 GB RAM, 2GB FusionDrive), all software is up to date and the latest version.
I'm working with a referenced catalog (JPG only) – but it's the same with my RAW catalog.
25,000 pictures in my catalog

What I've been trying to solve so far:
- disabled hardware accereration
- copied catalog on another disk (external)
- switching metadata sync on and off
- checking, optimizing and repairing the catalog file

I'm glad about every idea, which could solve my problem.

    There should be no user action which causes an application to crash. And certainly not repeatably and predictably. Addressing such a problem is the responsibility of the developer, its not feasible for a user to address this.

    Time to open a support ticket.

    I did so (opend a ticket), but I did not got an answer or other reaction from the support team until now.

    moving keywords is not really possible with C1. This is one of many serious problems Phase One have to resolve with catalog.

    The only one way it can work is following:

    1. disable Metadata sync
    2. select all images with keyword you want to move
    3. create a album with your images
    4. Remove your keyword from your images
    5. remove keyword from keywordlist
    6. Restart C1
    7. create your keyword at position you want
    8. Assign your keyword to selected images( your newly created album)

    !!!!!! Create Backup from your catalog before you are trying this !!!!

    Could you explain with more detail what you mean by "re-ordering keywords". From Robi-Wan's suggestion, I think that he and I have a different understanding of what you meant by this expression.

    • Are you trying to change the hierachical ralationship between keywords or just how it is shown in the Keyword tool

    • In which window or tool are you dragging the keyword icons

    Other Useful Info
    • How may keywords do you have, and how many levels of hierarrchy

    • How many images have keywords assigned

    • Did you import keywords from Aperture or from Lightroom

    • Are the keywords present in the image files

    Hi,

    I have this same problem reported in Dec. 2017 - Case 271540. In the moment I have only way to reordered Keywords.
    In CaptureOne - Windows Version. Sorry 😉 You can use the trial Version and used the catalogdb.

    An experience I had this week may be relevant.

    I was trying to change thee keywords on 1 variant (old keywords, not longer relevant).
    I had difficulties changing it, so I thought, OK, I delete it.
    I deleted the keywords, but found that immediately Capture One restores them. What the the h*** ??

    After some searching I found that persistent keywords were embedded in the Metadata of the image file (a TIFF). Even though I did not have Metadata Sync on, somehow the keywords are synchronising.

    Once I removed the keywords from the image file (using preview), then CaptureOne would do I what I wanted.

    If necessary, there are better tools than Preview for removing/changing keywords in metadata of files, such as EXIFtool.

    I don't believe that it is true that CO always creates sidecar files for all image files, because CO hasn't created any sidecar (XMP) files for any of my 16250 images.

    This is controlled in the Image page of the CO preferences; from here I can cause CO to create sidecar files, but I have turned it off.

    Of course is this controlled in the settings page.
    But you can tell for single image "write Metadata" and then C1 creates always XMP file

    I take a keyword form the main level ad drag it onto another keyword to become a child keyword, Means from a flat structure to hierachy structure.

    How many images have keywords assigned

    My catalog contains aprox. 25.000 pictures and every picture was assinged from 1 to max. 5 keywords.
    But I tried to start with a blank and empty catolog and aprox. 500 pictures without any IPTC metadata. And I observed the same issue. The number ob pictures or keywords seems to have no influence.

    Did you import keywords from Aperture or from Lightroom

    Yes, if you mean the keywords (and other metadata) are writen into the JPG. But I also tried to work with XMP sidecar files (left the JPG untouched).

    Do you have read what I wrote? XMP and JPEG can't work and C1 can not reorder keywords in files like JPEG/ TIFF/PSD...
    You must do this manually with another software - exiftool as example

    I think that to get predicatable and reliable behaviour, you should start with the keywords only present in Capture One, and not present in image files and XMP files. Get the keyword structure correct in C1, and then only if you need the keywords in another application, export them.

    I have already seen some unexpected behaviour with just one file, see my other post, when deleting a keyword in Capture One, and it is also present in the image file.
