"Upgrading session... - Transfer in progress"

I've neveer seen an upgrade take more than 5 minutes. How many image files are involved?
IMO the most likely issue is the NAS.

The NAS is fine, I'm able to import and export files via CaptureOne 10 and 11 - it's just upgrading Sessions that doesn't work. If I simply copy an existing v11 session into the folder of a v10 session it works and displays the images, but opening and upgrading seems to be too much to handle.

The sessions have a few hundred photos in them (60MP).

I'm going to try to convert all photos to the v11 engine and then tackle the session-upgrades afterwards. Maybe that'll make the whole thing an easier process for CaptureOne.

I’d be surprised if you could upgrade the engine without first upgrading the session to v11.

Could you maybe experiment with a small v10 session with just a few images, and then try to open it with v11? If that doesn’t work contact support. If it does work maybe try moving the session out of NAS, converting it, then moving it back?

Alright so CaptureOne and NAS sucks - sometimes. I don't get how they still can't get it to work properly with data servers or NAS devices, as far as I have been able to see, this has been an issue for years and still nothing has been done to improve the situation!

In the end I created a Catalogue and imported all the NAS-Files (took a while but worked) and then upgraded them to v11. That went surprisingly well and without any issues, even with all those tens of thousands of images.

However, working with sessions on the NAS is still a huge pain the ****. Even though transfer speed and the quality of the connection are both not an issue (it's faster than my old computer had with its built-in RAID HDD setup and that worked fine for years and it's 100% steady) it still takes a loooooong time to load even a small-ish session.

And you know what? When I replace the original v10 session with an empty v11 session it pretty much works most of the time but I have to say it's not a great solution. Having to replace 150+ sessions manually... and I just don't get how difficult it could be to replace the sessions with an upgraded version.
Besides, as I said it doesn't work all the time: sometimes the session just crashes when I open it and claims to be corrupt or unreadable - and then the next second I can open it without any issue.

The most reliable solution is a local catalogue linked to the NAS-image files but with all those big files it's not practical. I don't see myself using a 20+ GB catalogue which would take ages to load and would eat up my RAM.

Honestly, what is PhaseOne thinking? that everyone keeps their entire Archive on local drives inside their computer? Or that everyone is willing to copy/move hundreds of GBs of data from their Archive to their local HDD/SSD just to open up a session? Especially when you're working from multiple devices or you're travelling a NAS (especially one that's accessible though the web) is a necessity!!
If they can't get the program to play nice with NAS devices how are they supposed to face a future with cloud storage or other shared network based solutions?

I would suggest you open a Support Case with C1 and work with them to see what is happening in this instance.

There is no way people can plan for and test every eventuality in the modern computer age. Even Apple it seems when dealing with some fairly important security matters on new hardware.

There will, no doubt, be a log file somewhere that will help the technical crew to understand what you are experiencing.

Alright so I seem to have narrowed down the issue:

CaptureOne does NOT work with AFP (Apple Filing Protocol), so you HAVE to use SMB (Server Message Block) and connect your NAS this way.
Still working on finding the best way to do that, since it's a bit of a hassle (but the advantage is, that it should work better for windows anyway and I'm going to make the switch very soon).

So: If you want to use a NAS for CaptureOne, you have to stay away from AFP.

I get a sense of deja vu reading this., Pretty sure if was a topic running within the past 2 weeks but the forum has been busy enough for it to drop off the first page.

There seemed to be some good advice in it but I'm not a Mac user nor a NAS user so I did not bookmark it.

AFP is being deprecated by Apple so it's always a good idea not to use it anymore, not only with Capture One.

True but still the way CaptureOne accesses network drives on OSX is abysmal. It's very slow and cumbersome, even with SMB.
Using the Finder and other apps I can get 100% of the possible transfer speed (1 Gbit Network) and excellent response and access times - but with CaptureOne it's sluggish and even closing a session takes nearly a minute to accomplish.

I hope the experience improves after switching to Windows...
