Wishlist for C1 v7
I am member of the DWF (Digital Wedding Forum), where there's a good number of C1 users, many of us having arrived at C1 after using Lightroom or returning from a detour there.
I don't know how far the next full version upgrade of C1 is still away, but we wanted to contribute some ideas and wishes and I would like to invite everybody here to participate and add to the list. That way Phase One know what we are looking for.
Here is what we came up with so far:
I don't know how far the next full version upgrade of C1 is still away, but we wanted to contribute some ideas and wishes and I would like to invite everybody here to participate and add to the list. That way Phase One know what we are looking for.
Here is what we came up with so far:
- Crop tool: grips not only on corners but also on edge centers
- The undo list needs some kind of threshold when faders are manipulated with the mouse's scroll wheel. Only record start & endpoint, not tons of points in-between (renders undo useless and uses up undo buffer quickly)
- Keep top level points in Adjustment Clipboard collapsed (they re-open when new settings are stored). Often some long lists like Metadata or Lens Correction might not be used but they still can cause lots of scrolling down.
- Match exposures of several images based on shutter speed, aperture and ISO. If the source image is for instance 1/250 s, f/4, ISO 200, set Exposure for the next image to +1 EV if it has 1/500 s, f/4, ISO 200
- High Dynamic Range and WB as Local Adjustments
- Graduated Local Adjustment
- Show camera's serial # in EXIF and keep during export to JPEG or TIFF
- Range in Color Editor way to small (especially Lightness)
- More parameters for Vignetting (at least feather)
- Provide a flat list for Presets so that no navigation through menu hierarchies is necessary.
- Keyboard shortcuts for Presets.
- Ability so select more than one folder to be displayed and worked on.
- Develop: give choice to skip, overwrite or use unique name
- the ability to reset a sliders value to 0 by double clicking the slider name, as with Lightroom
- allow working in one color space (like camera input RGB) but measuring in a output space (like CMYK) without turning on visual proofing. This used to work in versions prior to 6, I'd like them to change it back.
- out of gamut previews for proof space (like PS)
- sort images by camera serial number
- sort images by type / show or hide by type
- easier to use crop settings interface. It's truly confusing now
- global tweaks to auto adjustment (warmer, colder, sharper, etc...) or bias (for skin, landscapes, etc...)
- previous button like in LR
- also a true history state panel
- process Mraw files from the 5dIII

I would love to see the selection ability in the adjustment layers palette go beyond just a round brush. Also more options for correction within the palette like the ones in the Quick as an example. 0 -
I would simply add:
- more Applescript commands, please!0 -

A dream.
I would add: Options for decluttering and turn off some instant previews. For the people that only have 8-core processors.0 -
Better lens correction with either lens profiles for the most common lenses or at least an easy way to create them. Especially stuff beyond normal distortion. I am thinking about the wave like (mustache) distortion on the Zeiss wide angle lenses. Images from those lenses are the only reason I actually use lightroom at all.
Bigger brush size for dust removal, plus source selection, so I can control more where the source info comes from and therefore also remove things without going through photoshop.
Split toning for color images too, not only black and white.
Some output border creation system. Would be nice to automatically create some borders around the output image (based on output recipe).
And perhaps graduate local adjustments, makes it easier for skies, but this is in the list anyway.0 -
It would be great to be able to move a crop and overlay on an image at the same time 0 -
Oh, and Command Line (for processing and EIP compressing), please. 0 -
I shoot table top to fit small boxes on flyer pages. The overlay function would be useful to me if I could reduce my image to fit the boxes. 0 -
Does anyone else feel the Highlight Shadow adjustments could work a lot better. When I use the highlight slider, I feel it darkens the entire image way too much rather than limiting the effects to mainly highlights. Same in reverse with the shadow slider. It would be nice to have a control similar to Tonal Width on PS. 0 -
Hmmmmm.... I'd love to see:
* live view triggering from C1
* battery monitoring for DF
* an iPad server that can keep up
* a Quick way to preview a CF card without opening Photo Macanic
* totally remove the "Yep C1 crashed" when it does at the moment the client glances up
* a quick way to Skype to distant clients
That's a start.0 -

Yep, a lot better.0 -

Irfanview.
Keith - this is the Mac forum.0 -
Irfanview or Mac equivalent..!
😉
(I actually thought that Irfanview ran on Macs too).0 -
C1Pro has always been awful w/ previewing CF cards. I don't know why Photo Mechanic can be so fast and C1Pro - a much more robust program - is so slow with this? 0 -
Personally I think Capture One should stick to it's name and focus on capturing images. Yes there are improvements needed in areas, however some people seem to expect C1 will eventually do their tax return. Yes some requests make sense, but when it's post production ( beyond capture and export) then let another program do the work.
My thoughts are that all the "ad on's" and extras ( such as color editor ) that aren't fundamental to C1 are potentially making the software more complex and unstable than it needs to be. I would like to see a C1 NOT try to compete with Photoshop in image adjustments but rather outcompete the other capture programs in capturing and then exporting images. Exporting them ready for post production in another program.
If you are asking C1 to be everything to all people then you are likely to end up with a program that does little really well.
It sounds to me like many are too cheap to buy software like Photoshop and create a post production workflow properly.
The daily users I speak to and work alongside just want their cameras to sync and C1 not to crash....0 -
Good point, but where do you draw the line? In my case I would like to output a single image that has all the highlight and shadow detail that I know my camera captures, rather than have to output two or more images, then combine them in Photoshop. If that means having a more versatile adjustment brush and better highlight shadow tools, then I want them. 0 -
Jeremy, with you 100% on this.
I want to see better demosaicing, NR, sharpening and highlight recovery (and frankly, I want them in Capture One 6, not the next paid-for upgrade), but I want it in Capture One the converter, not in Capture One the "do everything but change the baby's nappies" application.0 -

Agreed, but they're not "new release new features", they're reasonable improvements to functionality that exists now, which I think we might legitimately expect to see in the current version of Capture One.0 -
I would love to have highlight/shadow recovery and noise reduction as good as in Lightroom 4… 0 -
Yep, it's precisely for those three things that I've got Lr 4, Nicolas. 0 -

Hi Keith
So do I, plus the fact that C1 doesn't read PEF files from Pentax 645D, it reads the DNGs of course but then no lens correction…0 -

Only being an amateur/hobbyist, and not getting any money for my photos, I don't feel that I'm "cheap" not buying Photoshop - it's so expensive in the UK (£667.20 when I looked at the Adobe website just now) that I couldn't possibly afford it.
I find with the range of things that I can do in C1 at the moment that I rarely feel the need to use another program to do more to my images than I can do in C1.

for me it would be essential to implement a correction tool ("verlaufsfilter" in german ) like in lr4 !

A much more visible highlight around each preview when all (or more than one) images are selected. The faint white highlight is inadequate. 0 -

This is by far my #1 request. I've been pestering Phase One about it since the end of V3.0 -

There are still many nice features requested in this thread I created a year ago…
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=109410 -
I want to see:
-Lens correction/profile for 35mm dslr lenses.
-100% support of DNG files
-Improve dynamic range slider (including local dynamic range brush)
-include split toning sliders without converting the image into black & white.
-include local temperature & tint sliders/brush
-improve key shortcuts and integration with wacom tablet.
-improve noise reduction
-improve sharpening
-improve integration with photoshop and nik softwares.
-ability to open image files as an object
-improve the speed of importing images
-improve keyword entry which makes it superfast
-improve survey viewing of the images
-improve color sliders, especially the skin tone sliders
-improve dual monitor customization of interface
-include DAM or improve integration with Media Pro.
-include photobook page layout design.0 -
Here are a few more that came up: - keyboard shortcut for navigating through Adjustment Layers
- possibility to apply split toning to color images
- confirm reset (bent arrow) to single tab, not whole panel (example: reset resets Split Tone AND Color Sensivity tabs, but maybe I just wanted to reset Split Tones)
- Better tonal separation and high dynamic range handling like in LR4
- make use of all the lens profiles that Micro Four Thirds cameras/lenses automatically provide (for free!)
