exposure / brightness

What is difference between exposure and brightness controlls. If I will make my Picture darker, and I try both one by one, I don't see any difference, otherwise I feel, they can't be same. Thankfull beforehand, jouni

  Brightness has little effect in the highlights, exposure more so.
