I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling Capture One.

See the following knowledge base article for information about fully uninstalling the software. (Note is has not been updated for V9 or Windows 10, but should still be largely applicable.)

Also, a few days ago I created an official support ticket because for some reason one folder that came across from my Lightroom catalog doesn't seem to be accepted by C1. It briefly shows all my images and then they're gradually removed one by one until the folder is empty. If I restart C1 the images briefly appear to have returned only to, once again, disappear one by one. I haven't even received an acknowledgement that the ticket has been created.

Have you logged into your Phase one account to ascertain what action may have been taken on the Support Case you created?

What sorts of images were in the folder that "disappears"? Where other imported folder OK?

Are you still running in Trial mode or have you activated the installation? Are you running as Pro or one of the Sony only options? (Or even DB mode available free for Phase family Digital Back users.)

Hopefully the answers to these question will narrow down the possibly problem areas and give people a better chance of hitting a helpful path to get you running.

To create a support ticket you have to click two buttons, if you miss the second one then you actually abandoned the submission. As Grant said you should log in your account and check your case history.

Once you've deinstalled and reinstalled C1 PRO trial version, and the images still disappear in the import dialog as you've described, check that the files formats are acutally supported. What you describe it exactly what happens for unsupported files, e.g. raw files from my "goto" camera Olympus OMD-EM10 Mark II are still not supported and are shortly shown and then vanish in the import dialog ! ☹️

    Thanks for the replies.

I'm using a fully activated subscription version of Capture One Pro (not the Sony version). The images are ordinary Nikon NEF files (plus a few TIFs) like many of the images in other folders that work fine. At least I figured out what happened to my support ticket. I entered the information, clicked next and saw all my details captured and assumed that was it. I didn't notice there was a submit button. Mea Culpa.

I rebooted and now C1 opens again (it popped up a dialog box to let me choose the library rather than opening the previous one automatically like it usually does). So that's a good thing. 😊 I'd prefer not to uninstall and reinstall now that I can get the software to start but will give it a try if I continue to run into problems.

BTW, I'm also struggling to edit files in an external application. I'm trying to finish off in Alien Skin Exposure (or Photoshop with an Alien Skin filter layer) - neither seems to work. All seems to go well but even though I save and exit from the external application the changes don't make it to the TIF files that were created by C1 during the edit process. I just end up with TIF copies of the originals.

And is there a way to add Alien Skin Exposure to the dropdown box of external applications rather than having to locate it every time? The applications actually shown in the dropdown include crazy choices such as Internet Explorer, Photo Viewer and even Microsoft Word. 😊

/edit BeO, yep, my fault with the support ticket, but the workflow could probably be made a bit more obvious so as not to confuse idiots like me. 😉 I really don't think there's anything weird about the images but I'll go and take another look.

    Thanks!

In case the NEF files have been altered by any other application (e.g. ViewNX) it might be that C1 cannot read them anymore. C1 is quite picky if it comes to altered raw files. I've also experienced it with ARW files from a friend altered by Exiftool. Maybe this is the case with your files?

As I've read this before I used C1 I came to the conclusion not to alter any raw file at all, they are all straight off the camera. My raws are my gold, and should I find another raw converter in the future with even better IQ than C1 I don't want to risk not being able to use it.

    cheers

In my limited experience the C1 support team are pretty responsive to tickets.

I do have some sympathy with you about the "Submit" step - it has happened to me as well - when replying to a ticket as I recall. However many systems seem to have what we might call quirks and no doubt systems always will.

BeO's comments are pertinent. Also perhaps checking for alpha channels in the TIFF files and maybe even which TIFF standard they use. There are a few and some are not yet supported - usually because they are uncommonly used. Grayscale is not recognised.

In the past file size has also been an issue. There are (relatively generous) limits on the large end of the scale considering that as a RAW file developer there are still limits to the size of files it needs to work with. However there have traditionally been limits for very small files as well. Might that be a factor?

I think that limitation has been significantly changed with V9 to the advantage of working with smaller files.

If the files are something you would feel comfortable sharing (via a sharing facility such as Dropbox for example) there are usually one or two people on the forum who will endeavour to check for you whether they get the same results with the same files.

    HTH.

So, imagine my surprise when it transpired that I was just a moron? I guess that's the thing about being stupid - it's only the stupid people who don't realise.

The reason my images disappeared out of just that one folder was because I had a search term specified. That was it. Not only did I learn that I'm a moron but I also learned that Capture One persists search criteria on a folder-by-folder basis!

I got a nice image of a gent helping his injured lady to catch a train at Manchester Piccadilly on Monday morning. My first image processed in C1. 😊
